Obama's Nobel Prize triggers another wave of America-bashing from right-wing media

October 09, 2009 10:37 am ET by Eric Boehlert

Well, at least conservatives are consistent in their open disdain for American achievement under Obama.

Reminiscent of the Friday Freakout that followed the glorious news that Chicago, and the United States, had been denied the honor of hosing the Summer Olympic Games (Hallelujah!), the same Obama-hating voices in the right-wing media are outraged that the President of the United States has won the Nobel Prize.

In other words, Obama/America loses = good. Obama/America wins = bad.

And no, unhinged critics aren't simply wondering if it's too early in Obama's first term to win such a prestigious award. They're letting loose the divisive hate rhetoric (you'd expect anything less?), and demeaning the international achievement.

In the right-wing blogosphere, Obama's global honor is unfolding like a nightmare.

Question: Why does the conservative media hate America?

Its a socialist hidden agenda, Obama made them give it to him. This weekend is going to be good.

Freddy Boy, why don't you actually come back and debate some of your ignorant posts instead of instigating and running? You have been called out in a number of threads but just keep posting more.

Geez, the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama, suddenly makes Al Gore's NPP look like it was based on some kind of merit!

Call me odd, call me quirky, but I'm one of those strange people who like to see hard work and accomplishments rewarded. Not intentions. Not slogans. Not bumper sticker sentiment.

Okay, let's assume that the Mediamatters post is 100% true. Does it somehow, automatically, render the fact that when the nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize closed, Obama had only been in office for 11 days, non-existant? What had he accomplished in those 11 days that overshadowed the works of the other nominees. There were nominees mentioned, elsewhere, who had been struggling against oppression for decades - even imprisoned for their efforts. WTF had BHO accomplished in comparison?

Here's what I see is the lefty, lib, so-called progresssive standards for accolades: I'm standing in LAX, two months ago, changing planes. There, on the wall, is that strutting, little, camera-whore, mayor Antonio Villareconquista's mug on a poster "congratulating him for eliminating the burning of coal to produce Los Angeles' electricity by the year 2020." How do they really know it will get done?

Seriously, if the world is going to start handing out awards based upon the good intentions of the recipients, I want my Oscar, my Emmy, my Tony, my Mr. Olympia title, and my Adult Video News best actor award, right now! I intend to do great things in all these endeavors....if I can just manage to get up and out of the house one day.

It's the internet age. I just sent the following e-mail to the Nobel committee at [email protected] :

            Postmaster -

Is it true, that President Obama had only been in office for 11 days when the nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize were closed?

How can your organization justify the awarding of so meaningful a prize to someone who has accomplished so little in nine months as president, much less the 11 days you took to determine his worthiness?

I'm very sad for your organization - restoring meaning to it will be difficult.

That was reserved for those wanting us to lose in Iraq or calling it a failed effort. Just like the Vietnam era scumbags.

He was given the prize a couple of weeks after taking office and only announced it today.
The Nobel has always been a joke, its not a serious award. Go look into it.

Oh, and right wingers don't bash America, Obamas been doing that all by himself.
