  • America, what have you done?

    http://www.spectator.co.uk/mel...-have-you-done.thtml

An excellent review of Obama's first 14 days as viewed by the rest of the world.

President Obama has had, by general consent, a torrid First Fortnight. To put it another way, it has taken precisely two weeks for the illusion that brought him to power to be exposed for the nonsense that it so obviously was. The transformational candidate who was going to sweep away pork-barrel politics, lobbyists and corruption has been up to his neck in sleaze, as eviscerated here by Charles Krauthammer. Despite the fact that he came to power promising to ‘ban all earmarks’, his ‘stimulus’ bill represents billions of dollars of special-interest tax breaks, giveaways and protections -- which have nothing to do with kick-starting the economy and everything to do with favoring pet Democrat causes.

He has been appointing one tax dodger, lobbyist and wheeler-dealer after another. After appointing one official, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who had unaccountably forgotten to pay his taxes, he then watched his designated Health Secretary Tom Daschle fall on his sword because he too had taken a tax holiday. Daschle was furthermore a prominent actor in the world of lobbying and influence-peddling. Leon Panetta, Obama’s nominee for Director of the CIA has also, according to the Wall Street Journal, consulted for prominent companies and sat on the board of a public affairs firm that lobbies Congress. The Weekly Standard reports that Secretary of Labor nominee Hilda Solis was not only involved with a private organization lobbying her fellow legislators on a bill that she helped sponsor, but she apparently kept her involvement secret and failed to reveal a clear conflict of interest.

In foreign policy, Obama has started by trashing his own country through grossly misrepresenting its history and groveling to America’s enemies such as Iran, which has flicked him aside with undiluted contempt. He has gratuitously upset America’s ally India by suggesting that America should muscle in and resolve the Kashmir question.

His right hand doesn’t seem to know what his left hand is doing. He reportedly asked retired Marine General Anthony Zinni to be US ambassador to Iraq, but then abruptly withdrew the appointment without explanation after it had been confirmed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. And the precise role he is offering Dennis Ross – special envoy to Iran? Special adviser to Hillary? Special adviser to other special advisers? – remains mired in confusion.

I have argued before however that, given Obama’s radical roots in the neo-Marxist, nihilist politics of Saul Alinsky, it is the undermining of America’s fundamental values that is likely to be this President’s most strategically important goal. I have also suggested that, since this agenda is promoted through stealth politics which gull the credulous middle-classes while destroying the ground upon which they are standing, his second-tier appointments should be closely scrutinized.

And here’s a humdinger. Obama has picked a man called David Ogden to be Deputy Attorney-General. Ogden has made his legal career from representing pornographers, trying to defeat child protection legislation and undermining family values. As Fox News reported this week, he once represented a group of library directors arguing against the Children's Internet Protection Act, which ordered libraries and schools receiving funding for the Internet to restrict access to obscene sites. And on behalf of several media groups, he successfully argued against a child pornography law that required publishers to verify and document the age of their models, which would have ensured these models were at least 18.

The Family Research Council has more examples of his contribution to upholding American and western values. In one such case, he expressed the view that abortion was less damaging to a woman than having children:

In sum, it is grossly misleading to tell a woman that abortion imposes possible detrimental psychological effects when the risks are negligible in most cases, when the evidence shows that she is more likely to experience feelings of relief and happiness, and when child-birth and child-rearing or adoption may pose concomitant (if not greater) risks or adverse psychological effects ...

In another, co-authored brief, he argued that it was an unconstitutional burden on 14-year old girls seeking an abortion for their parents to be notified -- because there was no difference between adults and mid-teens in their ability to grasp all the implications of such a decision:

There is no question that the right to secure an abortion is fundamental. By any objective standard, therefore, the decision to abort is one that a reasonable person, including a reasonable adolescent, could make. [E]empirical studies have found few differences between minors aged 14-18 and adults in their understanding of information and their ability to think of options and consequences when asked to consider treatment-related decisions. These unvarying and highly significant findings indicate that with respect to the capacity to understand and reason logically, there is no qualitative or quantitative difference between minors in mid-adolescence, i.e., about 14-15 years of age, and adults.

And how did the 44th President react to the growing public dismay over the mess he was making? He threw his toys out of the pram -- or perhaps that should read, he got into the pram. For he fled the scene of the disaster and sought the company of seven year-olds instead. As the Telegraph reported:

‘We were just tired of being in the White House,’ he told a group of excited seven-year-olds before discussing Batman and reading them a book.

Tired of being President – after two weeks!

Tax cheats, pork-barrel politics, ancillary child abuse, incompetence, chaos, treachery and infantilism. America – what have you done?!

        What history is he misrepresenting?

I mean, it was a funny article but the problem I think most fanatically-biased people have is that, when your trying to trash someone and get people to agree with you, you can't let your seething hatred/bias seep out. It didn't work with the far-left and Bush and it won't work the far-right and Obama...People are just stupid...

Nope. Truth is an 'adult' word. Letting blind bitterness and anger get in the way of making a fair-assessment is hardly, 'truth'. Nothing wrong with not liking Obama or his policies but what the far-right fails to realize is that their hatred of Obama is the same hatred the far-left had for Bush. And yeah, look how successful and productive that hatred ended up being. So yes, stupidity is watching something fail...and then, instead of trying to be constructive, doing the exact same thing...

it should come as no surprise, but I agree with some things in the article.

Having said that, the Brit who wrote it can go pound sand. I don't care what a non-citizen thinks. It should also come as no surprise that I don't exactly embrace the "We are the world and should be one" concept. The Globalists can go pound sand also.

As a member of the right, I resent your assumption that we "hate" Obama. Unlike you libs, I cannot hate a man when I don't know him. I may hate his twisted and limp-wristed politics, but not the person.

Your talking about your hero, right? Because this is exactly what is going on right now.

DaLAW, talk about hatred...the only hatred that is blinding is the hatred the left has for the right. You Dems are so blind you are letting this man tear the foundation of our country apart both here at home and abroad with his foreign policy.

I just love how these liberals try and skew words. I am a republican BUT I can admit when we are wrong or out of our lane. These liberals will never admit their wrongs. Even with Obama ripping the constitution and this country apart in mere days, they all still stand and smile and look to turn the attention back to Bush....that is a sign of weakness and ignorance.

I did not agree with Bush on things and I would speak up when I felt like he was wrong. But here is Obama throwing money around like its water, pushing pork filled earmarked bills, socializing health care, trashing our country abroad to other leaders and they all sit quiet, smiling like abused house wives.

Do you leftys think its right to have your medical records electronically monitored by big brother and to be told what and when you can have procedures done???
This country is and has stood for freedom. This bill is the ultimate in infringing on our privacy, rights and is a major push for Big Government. Has everyone lost their mind. Paint it how you want, the nuts and bolts are the same.

Oh and as far as Bush goes. He kept this country safe after 911. Will Obama? The war, I have friends that have fought and died. My brother is there now. 90% of the military feel like the war was justified and has helped are fight against terror. Dont judge the war sitting from your couch. Tell me about the war when you are taking RPG rounds to your bunker or when a IED has just taken out 3 of your friends in their Humvee.

Ok as to the whole abortion issue stated above. Forget what ever feelings you have, for or against abortion. Teens are stupid. I as a teen recognize that I am stupid. It is a fact of life. Saying that a 14yr old could make the decision about getting an abortion just as well as an adult is pure foolishness. Your typical 14yr old is going to freak out, panic about how thre parents are going to react. They most likely will not think through the repercussions of an abortion. They just don't want there parent's finding out and they want it gone.
Dark and light shall merge to one, I cannot finish, what I haven't begun.

Show me the stats, that 90% of the military feel the war is justified? What group conducted that study?

I'm not sure what you are talking when you say big brother is going to monitor our medical records. I assume you mean the fact that we might go to electronic medical records, instead of medical records. That only makes 10000% sense, when trying to cut costs.

You must not have read the part where the gov. will "suggest" the most cost effective treatment to YOUR doctor. They will base the decision not on whether you need it, but your age. How long will they get THEIR (which is really OUR) money out of you. If the cost out weighs your remaining life expectancy, no procedure.

If the doctor does not follow along with the gov. "suggestion" they will be penalized. Read the article, Obama's people in the WH have not denied ANY of this.
A Veteran is someone who at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount up to, and including their life. That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact!
