125 Shot Dead In Chicago Over Summer

Total Is About Double The U.S. Troop Death Toll In Iraq

CHICAGO (CBS) ― An estimated 125 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.

In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 125 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.

According to the Defense Department, 65 U.S. soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period.

In the same time period, an estimated 247 people were shot and wounded in the city....

Not sure just where to put it, seemed more of like a various topic than LE topic.

    Oh and another thing:

Chicago was the murder capital of the nation for years. There were more civilians killed there annually (was like 700 one year) than soldiers in Iraq.

The ironic part of it all is that the vast majority of these murders were gun-related when Chicago was (is) a gun ban city.

The gun ban is idiotic, and does nothing but ensure that the criminals are the only ones that are armed. The state of Illinois also does not allow/issue concealed carry permits. It's a joke.

Chicago has a population of about 3 million, which is more than 20 times the number of American soldiers in Iraq.

So when is Chicago getting better body armor and MRAPs?

If Baghdadis are less likely to kill Americans it may only be that they're preoccupied with killing each other.

umm....with 20x more people, you would think the total number of people killed in Chicago would be greater.

However, the percentage of citizens killed in Chicago as compared to the total Chicago population is far less than the percentage of soldiers killed in Iraq.

This is what we call statistics skewing reality. But, of course you knew that. Right?

Whatever the numbers mean, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore and DC should be Hostile Fire Pay/Tax Free Zones.

Chicago Police Department has just announced plans to renovate their cruisers, and the Police Department's parking lot. Here's a picture of what it will look like in the end.

They should stick with 1114s with M2s and Mk19s. THe MRAPs are wastes of money...
