Although Barack Obama has represented urban areas of the country where gun violence was a community concern, he has been a long-time and consistent supporter of all Americans’ right to bear arms. Senator Obama has led the way in protecting our law enforcement officials by cracking down on armor-piercing bullets while also protecting individual rights of hunters and gun owners.

      * Obama said he supported better enforcement of existing gun laws, not new ones. Obama said he supported “common sense gun control measures. For now, the federal government should focus on better enforcement of existing gun laws, rather than creating new ones.”

      * Obama voted to give concealed carry for retired police and military. Obama voted to allow retired peace officers and military personnel who have served honorably for at least 10 years to receive a permit to concealed firearms. He was the only Chicago Democrat to do that. [93rd GA, SB 2188, 3/26/04, 3R P; 40-13-1]

      * Obama voted to allow the use of a handgun for hunting. Obama voted to allow the use of a handgun during the open hunting season for deer. [93rd GA, SB 257, 3/24/03, 3R P; 47-5-2; 5/28/03, HA 1 SC; 55-2-0]

      * Obama said municipalities should control local gun regulations, not the state. ‘That law eviscerated anti-handgun ordinances in some communities… The way I feel, Wilmette should not determine Mattoon’s firearms ordinances and Mattoon should not determine Wilmette’s.’” Obama said, “I don’t necessarily support those (gun-ban) laws… but I think local communities should have the right to pass them, and that’s what this law was about.” [Chicago Tribune, 10/8/04; Springfield Journal-Register, 6/3/04]
just thinking I should stir it up some more.

Actually an article accompanies the ten points card which explains Obamas postitions based on his past record.

The obvious I see that is that military personal should still have additional training on the applicable statutes regarding firearms and use of deadly force, just like any civilian who gets their ccw. For that matter, how in the world did he pick 10 years? Someone who was enlisted for a mere 4-6 years didn't enough time to get the hang of it? The 10 year requirement would also eliminate MANY combat veterans, from WW2 down to the current conflict.

BTW, a lot of folks in the military are not trained in handguns, just the M-16 and larger weapons.

He doesn't respect the second amendment.

Don't fall into the trap. Obamas website or wherever any of that came form is a pack of lies. At this point, its not beneficial politically for him to openly support gun control as he does.
No point in discussing it with his supporters because they are dishonest. Obama has to keep almost everything about his life a secret, his medical records, friends, associates, votes and beliefs. The same goes for his big mouth wife.

NObama '08 our REPUBLIC does not need a gun grabbing socialist! He voted to ban semi-autos and the abilty to have a firearm in WE THE PEOPLE's homes for PROTECTION!!! He talks of hunting and shooting sports when discussing the 2nd Amendment but it isn't about that, doesn't mention that - it is about protecting your life with FIREARMS which he is not about.

Read the 2nd paragraph of post #32....He supports COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL. Who decides what is common sense?
A Veteran is someone who at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount up to, and including their life. That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact!

I'm guessing he does, after all, didn't he say washington needed a babysitter?

Obama, along with Ted Kennedy, voted to ban the classic .30-30, one of the most popular hunting rounds in existance. He absolutley hates the 2nd Amendment (like all good socialists), and will do his best to destroy it.

Obama is a two faced liar, and is a true Marxist. He tries to hide it, and has done so with the great cooperation of the media.

It will be a sad, sad day for the Republic if that blithering, leftist idiot is elected.

As some one who has been to more gunshows thanI can remember, I don't recall seeing local gangbangers there and with criminals acquiring 92% of firearms outside of legal channels (including gunshows) maybe a loophole is the least of society's worries.

Since less than 3% of all crimes involve "semi-auto military style firearms" why do we need a ban in the first place?

Why should any of those issues be a plank for a party and his lordship Obama when over 60% of LEOs feloniously killed, the killer was on PAROLE or that 75% of gunshot victims in Chicago are criminals?

Common sense would dictate a different course.

And I'm sure it's not inflated or exagerated at all.

That being said, the statement on his website is kind of weak. It allows for a lot of wiggle room to go after handguns and concealed carry for law abiding citizens. Me no like.
