  • Running with ankle weights

    Hi,

Nike has the 2.5 or 5lb ankle weights, and I was thinking that it could help improve my 100 yard dash times, or increase my speed in general.

Just wondering what others think of this.

I am skeptical about running with ankle weights. I think it'd be safer for you if you held them.

It's likely you'd be at a higher risk for injury. Hey, worst comes to worst, check out your local running store, and ask them!

i have two college level track coaches in my inlaw family, both say that if you want to increase sprinting, run uphill sprints around 30 to 50 yrd sprints, and work out and stretch your hamstrings. and calves.

I used to wear ankle weights. I would run short distances with them and then run the same distance without them. Obviously you notice a difference and it helped with some of my running times. I did hear, like someone mentioned above, that they may be bad for your knees. I worked with them a few months and then stopped when I heard about the whole knee thing. Running uphill or with one of those resistance parachutes would probably benefit you more and might be a little safe on your knees and other joints.
