While my PT test is about a month and some change off whats a good amount of rest prior to doing it? Back in the Army we usually took the day before it off and just did long series of streches. Any helpful hints on good routines before hand and how much rest to take?

It is different for everyone. It really depends on how well you're conditioned and how much work capacity you have. I find that a few days of active rest and then total rest the day before works for me. But, you can just continue your program like the PT Test is not even happening and still be fine.
