  • I mentioned two variants that come down to personal preference.

    The 16" M4 upper:

    Or, the 16" Midlength upper:

Which of those did you want to go with? When you decide, just scroll down through the options until the description says EXACTLY what my decriptions say above (except their website will say, "CMMG" 16" M4 upper, etc...)

      • I only have the wedge in one of my rifles, as it was incredibly loose and needed something to tighten it up. It feels much better in the hands now, but I don't think it did a thing for its accuracy.

Here ya go... (By the way, I've contacted CMMG about letting me design a complete upper, and making it a linkable selection on their site, but I haven't heard back from them about it yet.)

              CMMG 16" Mid-Length Upper

Rear Sight Option: My pick is the LaRue BUIS, but CMMG doesn't offer it from the factory. So, you could choose from one of these: YHM Solid Rear Sight YHM-9493S (+$53.95), YHM Solid A2 Rear Sight YHM-643K (+$98.95), or LMT Stand Alone Sight (+$119.95) or if you really want/need a folder, Troy Folding Battle Rear Sight (+$140.00)

Why the Troy 9.0 MRF-M and not a Daniel Defense Omega 9.0?

                Just curious

                • Thanks jwise.

                  Two last questions:

                  1) If I order the Handguard Option: No Handguard, you save $20 but what will it look like without a handguard?

2)Rear Sight Option:is their a big difference between the YHM Solid Rear Sight YHM-9493S (+$53.95), YHM Solid A2 Rear Sight YHM-643K (+$98.95), or for $89 I can order the LaRue BUIS from another on line source. Is it difficult to install myself if I go this route?

Finally, thank you for all your help, I greatly appreciate it.

Because the Troy is cheaper, and is a fantastic product. I have the carbine and midlength versions.

The Troy units do not need to replace the barrel nut in order to be installed, only the delta ring will need to be cut off. In fact, the front sight base doesn't have to be removed either, as the unit is a two-piece.

I like LaRue stuff as well, but they are also one-piece units.

You will need a handguard. They offer the "none" option for those of use who have spare parts bins full of take-off parts from our recent "upgrades."

                      You will need a handguard.

The rear sight just bolts on, so any yahoo who can turn a screwdriver can install one. No biggie... I'd recommend the LaRue BUIS (in fact, the LaRue just slides on and clamps down with just a lever, so it's even easier!)

The Daniel Defense Omega is also a two piece unit, the front sight does not need to be removed, the barrel nut is not replaced, in fact you don't even need to cut off the delta ring; the weapon does not need to be modified in any way other than removing the plastic handguards.

You should check them out when you do another build.

Interesting. I'll check it out. Thanks!

                          Pretty sweet rail!

It is a great product. No modifications needed whatsoever, and it's still free-float! It is a bit more expensive at $295, but for someone who isn't handy with a dremel tool and a few tools, it would be worth it. Thanks for pointing it out.

I admit that I found a product I liked, and just stuck with it. However, if you're getting the unit installed ahead of time, or if you're at all skilled with your hands, I still think the Troy would be the better value.

However, these stats might make the difference to you:

                          DD Omega 9: 9.7oz
                          Troy MRF-M: 13.5oz

So, if weight is important to you, then the 4oz you will save by going with the DD might be worth the extra $60.

                          • At Bravo Company the Omega 9.0 for $275, so it's only $40.

One other thing I failed to point out earlier, the Omega has QD swivel sockets built into it on each side near the receiver with travel limiters.

                              • I'm planning on ordering the 16" mid length set up as stated in JWise's post #577. Is there anything negative in getting it with the YHM Lightweight FF Rail?
I definitely want a FF rail but the suggested Troy is 235.00 and the YHM is 128.00. I'm sure the Troy is better but would I regret getting the YHM? I will mount a light and a vertical forearm grip on the rails.

I've read over this thread countless times and have learned a great deal. I was actually going to order an A3 Bushmaster to replace my A2 Bush Patrolmans model. But after reading this I decided to go with the CMMG. (JWise should really be receiving some compensation from CMMG due to this thread )
I ordered 2 CMMG lowers today and will order the 16" upper in a day or so. I'm going to use the 2nd lower at a later date and get a SBR setup after I get all that paper work finalized and approved.
Thanks to JWise and all the others who have contributed their expertise to those like myself with little or no knowledge on the tech stuff.
