  • Do any agencies use the Ruger Mini-14?

Just wondering, do any agencies use the Ruger Mini-14 as partol rifles, or do they just use AR15's and/or shotguns? I know that many correctional facilities use the Mini-14 but was curious about other police departments of sheriffs' office.

Yes. Is it recommended? No. I've posted my experiences with them in many threads. I'm sure if you look around you'll find them, or just do a search.

Some agencies in my area use Mini-14's for patrol use. While they may not be as good as an AR, they are still suitable for patrol. Some dept's seem to like them because they are relativly cheap, fairly durable, and they don't look like a machine gun. I've had one for about 22 years, still kick's a**. Here it is.

i can't think of any agency around here that uses the mini. at my agency we are all issued 870's, and ar's with a few m16a1's making an appearance every once in a while

i do still have my mini 30 and a 14 i purchased for my wife that are great fun, but i would not use them for work. even the simple things such as changing magazines can be more difficult on the ruger than ar's.

The older ones work better than the new ones. The new extractors they use are junk.
