I bought my wife a P-22 last year, and it was about $250. I wanted to teach her how to shoot, but start off small. Its a good little piece, and reasonably priced. I haven't had any experience with the P99's, but I haven't heard too much bad stuff about them. However, I think that they are a little over priced. For $500 I just think you can get a better gun.

Are you a Walther Fan?
This is my first time posting a quote on this forum. The quote below, and above? What are they about? Anyway, are you a Walther fan. I love my PPK's, and not just because of James Bond. The weight, accuracy, and balance of that weapon is increadable. It holds 7 rounds with one in the chamber, and you know how small the extra magazines are. So, you can carry alot of extra ammo, mags, etc with you. Plus it's thin frame allows for perfect concealment for backup in the summer. Plus, I can use it and my wife even though not the expert that I am with it, can pick it up at the range and get them all on the target, even if not perfect grouping. But, she's gettin' there. Let me know which you use, and what you like about it. Stay Safe, hope to hear from you all soon!!

I've heard good things about them. But I don't like the .380, with the technology of today the smallest caliber I would buy is 9mm, and that's either a backup or a wife gun. Kahr makes a terrific 9mm that is small and is extremely concealable, just make sure you put 200 rounds through it before you totally depend on it. If you want bigger glock 26 is nice.
Just my .02Illegitimi non carborundum - Don't let the bastards grind you down.

My walther
The only thing I would like to add since my last post on this subject is the fact that we are talking 9mm here. I have received private reply's telling me that the walther is a girls gun etc. The funny thing is all guns kill, I want the most dependable, accurate, adaptable firearm I can find. Also, one that can be used as a primary and a secondary weapon. the walther fires the same ammo as the duty weapons of those calling it a girls weapon? Also, why did the CIA use the walther as issue? I personnally have never used a more dead on accurate firearm in my life. The way it fits in my hand, the weight, balance, number of rounds it holds, and now the sights that can be used, it is just incredible firearm. Interarms, oh before I forget, it is one of the most sought out firearms. I dont know one collector, that doesn't have one, or swear by them. The price is so high because of the exceptional quality. And, the range of firearms is also incredible. I looked at a book about the company, and was just awe struck at the military, and govt. uses of the weapon the so called "big guys" on the forum put down. Maybe, the size of their hands make the use of the 9mm impracticable. Because I know as good officers, they realize the heritage of this valuable weapon. Most of these officers probably use the standard 40cal. as I do. Only, because they make us. Otherwise I would use my 9mm as an all around duty weapon also. It's much more dependable, and the safety is one of the best on the market. Go with Stainless Steel, that is my only pet peeve with the walther, if you by the james bond style. The newer ones are good blued or steel. And the ergonomics put into designing the newer models, WOW!! They do what the Glock lovers like about the Glock, only with better dependability, and grips, and weight balance. Also, newer caliber's. Well, I got my head of steam off this topic for today, Stay Safe, and remember the rules of positive thinking on patrol.
