I have one for a 1911. It runs 100%, with any kind of ammo. However, it is heavy (has a very heavy barrel); it is more awkward than a purpose built carbine, as you have to shift the gun to reach the mag release; and it is still firing a pistol round.
It can be fun as a plinker, but I would not reccomend it as a service firearm. I prefer a .223 for a police service arm, but the awkwardness alone would rule it out, compared to a 9mm or .45 carbine.
