A month ago I switched from the Serpa level 3 to the Blackhawk Epoch holster. So far I am impressed. At first the holster was extremely tight but has loosened up. There is a tension screw for passive level one tension, which works as I didn't have the gun all the way in and was still held in the holster. The thumb break pushes down instead of towards the gun like the Serpa's. The thumb break if you press once without pulling on the gun will just flip the hood up. If you press your thumb and pull on the grip the gun will be released from the holster. There is no finger release in the trigger. I have smaller hands so people with small hands might have issues pressing the thumb all the way for proper release of the gun. The holster accommodates other duty pistol lights like the TLR1 and Surefires. I already had the mid-ride holster setup instead of the longer one that comes with the holster. The holster tends to no bind with the shorter belt ride.
I carried the Serpa holster for 5 years without an issue between a Glock 22 and an M&P (which I currently carry). I had the most current version of the xiphos light from Blackhawk and was pleased with the output and spread of the light. I tried it against a normal tlr1 and my coworker and I both liked the spread of the xiphos better. I purchased a tlr1-hl to use with the holster. The added light is nice but I do not feel I have really gained anything. I liked the paddles on the xiphos better than the toggle up down on the tlr but I will get used to it.
I bought the holster/light basically because I am lazy at times and wanted to not have to take off my light everyday when I go home from work and then again put it on. Blackhawk offers a paddle option for the Glocks but not the M&P's. Also I like new things
