Any departments issueing Taurus?

Our department is in the proces of going from Glock to Beretta (PX4). I recently heard that the administrators seriously considered issueing Taurus handguns, because of their price. The final decision was eventually to go with the Beretta. My question is, are there departments that issue Taurus handguns??

I'd personally be annoyed at a switch from Glock to Beretta. That seems like a bad idea to me. Taurus would be even worse.

I once read of a British firearms unit who had a copy of the Beretta92 which I'm 99% certain were Taurus, whatever they were one of the guys had a magazine fall out of it on a live operation they now use Glock's

The PX4 pistols are really nice though. The 92 is a love it or hate it type of gun, but the PX4 is an entirely new system. I haven't heard any real bad things about them from anyone.

Taurus would be a disaster though. Their designs are average but their quality control is VERY suspect. I'd feel really bad for any department that got stuck using them.

Just to clarify, I was assuming the OP meant the 92. I'm not familiar with the newer Beretta's, so I am not judging them.

One of our guys carried a taurus off-duty and the magazine would fall out when he pulled the trigger.

I had a Kahr PM9 at one time that the magazine would fall out of. I sold it and now have a Taurus 709 Slim and a Taurus .44 special 2" barrel and have never had an issue with either one.

Taurus as a primary I have no dealings with, but I carry my 709 more than my duty weapon or the revolver as it is my off duty weapon as well as my BUG.

I agree as a primary weapon Taurus would not be my first choice. As a BUG or off duty I think it is fine. How many carry a KelTec, Bersa, or any other number of the cheaper options in this manor? I am not saying buy one and never shoot it. You got to put rounds through it to test it and say, "Yes I'll trust my life with it". I am just saying I had what many would call a "Top of the line brand (Kahr)" and it was worthless due to the magazine falling out. I replaced it with a Taurus and have had no issues with it.

Close to 500 give or take... About 300 Winchester white box, about 100 or so were our Ranger duty ammo and 100 or so of a few other brands (Remington, American Eagle and so on)... I try to shoot 147gr as thats what our issued 9mm is.

I don't mind getting the PX4. They seem to have a rotating barrel that reduces the recoil. If we had gotten the Taurus I would have been upset. Not as a BUG or some, but not as my dutygun.

Your BUG has to work every time; after all, your primary must have failed or you wouldn't be going to your BUG.
