  • Wasr AK...R.I.P.

At the range today, first time in about two months, and after getting it back from the smithy.(Ftf's)
    Long story short...it blew up.
Looks like out of battery explosion...scared the Hell outta me when it did that. It blew the cover off ( with red dot attached...now broken), bent the push rod and locked it up tight.
    Needless to say, it's toast.
    Pics ltr.
Many are now getting ready to start typing..." I told ya so..."
    Good news...I'm OK...really...thats good.
Good news...I now get to buy another AK..this time a quality piece. (Contact me if ya got one for sale)
Bad news...RIP Rom. Wasr AK...you were fun.

I'll keep it for parts...thats about all I can do...I can never again fire a round thru it, regardless...just not trustworthy.

    Live and learn.
    I shoot, therefore I am.

Yea...I'll take some. I have the blown out casing. There's about a 3x6 mm tear in the casing, right at the end of it, completly blown out.
        Could of been much worse.
This happened after about 200 rounds being fired without issue today.

        Thanks, glad I'm OK too.

Glad to hear you're OK. I was at the range with a guy last New Years Day who had an OOB slamfire on a Mosin. He wound up with brass shrapnel in his hand that required surgery (since his hand was still closing the bolt). Talk about a good way to make sure everyone's wide awake!

He was really ****ed when he got to the ER and they insisted on listing it as a gunshot wound. "I didn't get shot!!!" LOL

              OK,
AIM states that they only take care of their stuff for 30 days and would offer no help even though this POS has been a problem from day one.
I called Century Arms, their supplier, and century supplied a UPS pick up. I was told someone will look at it and call me. Fixed, replaced or nothing are the options. AIM knew that from day one that it had 100% ftf's. I suggested that I take it to my smithy and they agreed, but did state I could return it. After my smithy dremmled in a feedramp, my ftf's were reduced to about 5%. Then I had a out of battery explosion.
Now the problem, as I see it, is that Century , more than likely, is going to say that since I had it worked on, instead of returning it, that it's my fault.
              I don't disagree 100%...but come on?

Wasr's aren't the best, but they should function...right?

So, anyway, I know i'm going to bite the bullett on this one ( made a funny.)

I just ordered and paid for (ouch, right after buying X-mas stuff) a Saiga from K-Var as suggested by jwise.
I hope the parts are interchangable as the Wasr will look good...kinda like wall art...lol.

OK jwise, I'm holding you to this one...it's on YOUR shoulders.....lol.

Congrats on the Russian. Later on if you ever plan on doing anything with it, there's always the AK100 family conversion.

No excuse for your WASR blowing up. There should of not of been any issues with your firing pin as it was new. Too bad the guy who worked on your gun didn't check the headspace.

Buy yourself a winner and make me jealous:

SLR-106 FR-33 - Stamped receiver, 5.56 NATO caliber, Desert Sand color left-side folding stock, 24mm muzzle brake, bayonet lug, accessory lug, stainless steel heat shield, 2 stage trigger, and scope rail. Hi-capacity mag not included. Comes with one 5-round magazine.
(I would do sans desert color stock)
