Anyone have any suggestions on a company that makes an affordable body worn camera? It would be purchased on my own dime so a new Axon isn't happening. Looking for something that I can easily manage the recordings and a decent size video storage with good video quality both day & night would be a plus.

Why would you purchase your own body camera?
Where are you going to store the data? How will you maintain chain of custody?"I am a Soldier. I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." -- GEN George S. Patton, Jr.

Before our agency got body cams, some officers just recorded video using their personally-owned cell phones sticking up out of their shirt pocket.
But then when we got body cams, a G.O. was issued, prohibiting us from using anything personally-owned to record audio or video, and it ESPECIALLY prohibited us from recording any superior officer, using ANY equipment, regardless of who owns it. That one just didn't smell right...👍 3Comment

Those "affordable" units may not meet the challenge.
Even with the Axon cameras they may store 20+ hours of videos depending on how they're set but the batteries won't do it on a single charge. There has been days they barely lasted the entire shift.
Check out Amazon and look for reviews on YouTube. In the past I've been issued Muvi and Bodycam units. I had bad luck with the Muvi cameras and will never try them again.
FWIW the last time I done research on body cameras for my department I found this one system that turned the officer's phone into a body camera. I found a department in NJ was trying them, at the time. They made mounts for the phones so they could be attached to the uniform.
Not a bad idea if the department issues you a phone but I preferred a separate unit.

The phone just can't do what they are asking it to do."I am a Soldier. I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." -- GEN George S. Patton, Jr.
