Well, not to go all negative on you, but even if you have patches with Velcro, it will scream "OFF-DUTY COP" if you wear it to and from work, particularly if you go with the so-called LAPD tuxedo (uniform pants and a white T shirt). Although, from your screen name, perhaps you work at an institution and aren't sworn. That doesn't matter, though, it still sends the same message. Focus on the jacket you want for work, keep it in your vehicle, if you must, and then get an inexpensive windbreaker to cover up with. That might also send the same message, but a over-sized windbreaker can hide a lot of stuff.

Also, if you haven't been to a uniform shop, in person, I would encourage you to do so, if you can. A bunch of us can banter back and forth about Blauer, 5.11, Taylor Leather, etc., but what matters is how it seems to YOU, in person, at the uniform store.

    Duty/Off-Duty jacket?

    Hello,
I'm shopping around for a new patrol jacket. Something for three seasons that has plenty of extra pockets but also has the soft Velcro panels on the upper arms for placing an agency shoulder patch. Any ideas. It is going to be used mainly on duty but with being able to take off the patches (for driving to and from work) it would be able to function as a regular coat as well.
