I think there was a thread about this a long time ago, can't remember for sure... Anyone using the new ASP cuffs? I am especially interested in the new hinged model...

I seen some other folks around here with them. They seem alright except for the fact they have the key hole on both sides so easier for suspects to get out.
I havent heard any stories of that happening....yetTHE OTHER PLACE...A Forum to get away to

THere was a video passed around showing how easy they were to pick. I recently talked a rep who showed me how they corrected that problem and they seem pretty decent to me. Light weight. They even made a special order of pink cuffs for Sheriff Arpaio in Arizona. ( the guy who has the prisoners sleeping in tents and wearing pink jumpsuits)Jerry

Junk
I have a pair of the new ASP cuffs and they are junk. They don't fit in any cuffs cases unless you use a double case. APS is supposed to produce a case for them, but I have yet to find it.
If I have the cuffs 'open' and invert them then the internal part (locking part) actually falls out of the cuff. Talk about I looked like a fool with my flashlight on the side of I-10 looking for a piece of my handcuff.
I have them boxed up to mail back to ASP.

I have a pair of the chained cuffs, use them as my "3rd" cuff in my duty bag. I like them, but unless I was going to put them into single cuff cases (I carry a double) I wouldn't use them as my primary. Handcuffwarehouse.com has some cuff cases specifically made for them.Illegitimi non carborundum - Don't let the bastards grind you down.

I used a pair of them as "loaners" while my cuffs were out being engraved with "cuff calipers".
I did not like them... Too large for my open-top leather cuff cases and my nylon Bianchi accumolds (I keep leather and nylon gear for differing uniform combinations). The gate was way too easy to swing accidentally. If you hang it over your belt it's likely to swing through, then you have open cuffs.
I also dislike having key openings on both sides. Apply the cuffs with the hole UP, as you should have been trained.I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within.

Note to self: Do not buy anything that is hyped more than the ASP baton from ASP.
Anyone remember the flashlight that connects to the baton end cap? Nice light, but drawing an impact weapon as a flashlight scares the hell out of people, especially when your not going to hit them with it.N. A. Corbier

I have them, and like them. They seem to be more comfortable for long term wear, since they are a bit wider. They are also easier to hang on too for me, but are lighter then all metal ones. Bianchi's 7900 size 2 handcuff case and gould and goodrich b470 series should fit the cuffs. Both come in various finishes for leather, and with hidden and showing snaps. I currently use my asp cuffs as my third set and keep them in my bag until i get a cuff case that they fit in. For nylon, I havent looked for a case, since I havent gotten to wear my nylon gear in two years

ASP cuffs RULE

Cases for the ASP cuffs are easy to find if you are looking in the right place. I recommend Copquest. They have a variety of different styles to choose from that all work.
As for RedSticks comment about them falling apart, I'm sure that was just an isolated incident, and it was probably on one of the first production runs with the red double lock indicators. The new cuffs have yellow indicators and all the problems with the first run have been taken care of.
I would recommend getting chain cuffs instead of hinged. Hinged are a real pain in the *** to get on someone that isn't holding still.
Needless to say, I have been nothing but happy with my ASP cuffs, and I would recommend them above anything else.

"If you do the job right and properly search the person your cuffing, the holes on both sides are a benefit, not a disadvantage. They won't be able to use the extra hole to their advantage unless you let them."
Remember: Doing your job right includes searching the back seat of your car, or ANYPLACE your prisoner is going to be. Even temporary holding cells at the court. I still prefer having only one keyhole, just in case your prisoner is able to get a paperclip, or anything else.
Not exactly ASP cuff related, but...
In my division (civil) I do transports to and from medical facilities and other county jails. I picked up a mental patient at an E.R. who was being held by a city Officer. When transfering the cuffs, I asked if he had anything I needed to know about. Switchblade, handgrenade, etc. The patient reached into his pocket ( my hand then clamped onto his) and he handed me his razor knife! Should have seen the city guy's expression.I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within.

toasterlocker, I found hinged cuffs eaier to apply to resisters - but I did use PAIN COMPLIANCE - "ouch ouch ouch ouch - OK, OK, OK, just don't hurt me!""A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the existing of better men than himself."
