Gall's

Is Gall's a good place to buy all equipment needed or are they a rip off? Is there a cheaper place to buy it from? Thanks!

I like Copsplus ...they seem a little cheaper. I have ordered from Gall's over the years though, and I will say their customer service is very good, even if their prices are a little higher.

Thanks Groundhog for your comments, I have tried a lot of them over the years and wanted other officer opinions on it, even though I guess you could say that I am retired from law enforcement. I still like to buy equipment and things such as knives and holsters.

I tried CopsPlus, but their shipping takes forever. If you're impatient, like me, you might have better luck with:
Bratemans or Siegel's Uniforms.

Siegel's is AWESOME with customer service and Bratemans has great prices. With Siegel's I once called them and just did it all over the phone, while the sales associate was in an aisle of the store filling up a basket with all the stuff I needed. It was great. And shipped it off to me RIGHT AWAY.

Gall's has always been fair....... They are now owned by Aramark a major company. Never been ripped off by gall's and they ship fast and you get item in a few days.

I've used Copsplus, and their customer service is very good. Sometimes, though, they don't have items in stock and you have to wait forever. My last order from them I got six out of seven items within a week, but I had to wait over three months for the last item to arrive (Monadnock has huge back orders on their autolock batons, I'm told.)

Anyway, I wouldn't go with Galls. The mark-up is significant, and I would just assume wait for something cheaper. If you need it right away, just go to a local cop shop instead (if you have one.)

Ebay is a good place to look to, but you have to know what you are doing to make sure you get exactly what you want, when you want it.

I've used Galls for equipment and uniforms before. As long as you don't order anything like OC (Ground Ship item), they get there pretty fast.

I've got a stack of catalogs around the office somewhere, I will play the "who has it cheaper" game when I need items, or my officers do. (We're one of those security companies who actually tries to be professional, part of that is doing bulk orders for our officers, so they don't look like f-ing crap out on the street.)

All in all, Galls is like the first place you ever hear of. Some Sergeant gives you a catalog, or you find one in the squad room, or if your private, another employee goes, "Stop wasting your money with the local places, get it from Galls."

Eventually you figure out that they're not the cheapest for everything, and you start shopping around.

Thanks nacorbier. I found an applegate knife for around $69.95 and when I went to Galls, they were selling the small applegate knife for about $119.00. That is a big difference, so I would rather look around than count on Galls.

Quoted for Truth. If you need it NOW, you call Galls, and eat the difference. When I needed a new holster, I went with CopsPlus, because they had the 070 in Left Hand cheaper than Galls. When I needed 50 items for a shock deployment in a crack neighborhood, I called Galls, and had it by Saturday, the night of the deployment.

(There is nothing like showing up with two cruisers full of gear, when the local police lighted up like kids on Christmas seeing what toys we'd brought. MK-9 OC, 20 pairs of cuffs, etc. They actually felt prepared to wade through 50-75 kids loitering on a property doing drug deals, when there were 15 of us and 5 of them.)

Sometimes I do not care how much something cost, so I am about 50/50 on it. Just wanted ideas on it, because I had been told from my former Chiefs that Galls is so expensive. Probably because they were such a small department, they could not afford much.

Galls is alright for some things. However always shop around sometimes the manufactuer will sell at a le rate or bulk rate.

If you like to pay the high prices Galls is ok. I have shopped from many internet stores. LA Police Gear has been great. They ship fast and have always had my items in stock
