  • Bates Enforcer Series boots

I start the LEO Academy in just over two weeks and am required to purchase my own gear. For boots I was looking at the Bates Enforcer Series Ultra Lites 8" Tactical Sport Side Zip Boot. Price seems good but I was hoping a few would have some positive experience with this particular boot.

Also, the local Sears carries them so I can go in and try them on before I order them online.

Also, if there is another boot in the similar price range you might suggest other than these feel free to chime in as well.

Thanks for any help here fellas!

I never had luck with zipper bates boots. I had the half boot zipper and the rubber came off around the edges of the leather. I also had a hard time keeping the boots tight -- no matter what I did they seemed loose. Also with the zipper boots you have to watch where you step, as the water just seems to pour in the zippers if you're in a large puddle.

I would recommend a good pair of Danner boots or magnum viper boots (very comfortable)...

A great boot for the price, very comfortable and light. A good choice for the academy. Just about everybody wore them in my academy class. The only downside is that they don't last too long as they are a value boot. You might also want to look at the Rocky Alpha Force boot, bout the same price and comfort but also waterproof and supposedly last longer....

Thanks for the info! I like the idea of a zipper boot time wise switching from uniform to pt gear and such.

Also, I just need them to last through the academy. The department I intend to work for provides all gear.

        Thanks fellas!

I wear nothing but bates enforcers I absolutely love them. They do wear out pretty quickly I go though at least one pair a year.

everyone ive talked with loves the bates so i bought a pair for the academy i start in 2 weeks. worn them several times to break em in and they are very comfortable. being softer leather and soles they are very light and comfortable but wont last as long as more military style boots (dont shine up as easy either). they are much cheaper and more comfortable though so its a decent trade off.

I've had two pairs without the zipper. First pair sucked and the sole split within 6 months. Despite that I bought a second pair that have lasted a little more than a year. I did get a grade 3 sprained ankle wearing them. So...not much ankle support and durability is hit or miss. They are comfortable but I won't be getting another pair.

I had a pair when I started working for the DOC I bought 3 years ago. I wore them for about an average of 45-50 hours a week and did this for 2 years while working as a Corrections Officer. Wore them for many a CERT training and mandatory OT nights. Now I wear them when I go out and do my home compliance checks. They're worn, the leather is horrible, the laces are shot (i'm on my second pair of laces) but they're still comfy, the zipper has held up fine, and they are light weight.

i'd buy another pair if I finally get into an academy. Probably not the best boot, but something affordable, light weight, and a good value.

These are what I buy. They only last about a year and the laces about 1/2 that. I usually buy some 5.11 parachute cord laces and they last a little longer. When something starts to break the whole boot falls apart.
Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have.

Some are pointing out to go with Bates (i.e. they have had success), while others recommend Danner.

For those of you saying no to Bates and suggesting Danner, if not Danner than who? Danner does not make a boot that fits my foot.

                      Thanks

We usually wear either Rocky's or Bates, but recently switched to Original Swat. They've got the side zip, light weight. and comfortable. They are hands down the best duty boot I've worn. As far as durability, I've only had them for 3 months, but they seem to be holding up well.

I wore Bates in the army and they seemed good enough for me. I wore them untill the soles had no tread left. Now i wear Corcoran II's for police work. Funny thing is when you see another officer wearing "Jump" boots, he does'nt even know what a jump boot is.

had mine last two years and keep them shined up. unless you look close you'd never be able to tell they arnt new. plus i never had to break them in. from day one they were comfortable. they have a lifelong cliet from me.

I had the bates enforcer and now wear the rocky alpha force. Being a deputy in a decent-sized county i'm involved in standoffs and lots of crap that involves being outside in the country and walking in water. The water proof boots are a HUGE plus. Only had them since it turned cold so can't comment if they are too hot during the summer or not. I liked the bates but they didn't last long. I walk on the outside of my foot and should have been buying a pair every 3-4 months. they just do not last. The leather sucks and the rubber sole is flimsy. Try the rocky and danner boots as well. I like the rocky boots a LOT, though.
