  • Handcuff Maintenance

    .

It appears to me that my stainless handcuffs are rusting inside where the single metal bar is riveted/attached into the double bar.

Do you guys use any type of oil or anything to prevent this?

I use Break-free, and let it soak in for a couple of hours before you wipe it off.
    I trust my life with J. M. Browning's design, the 1911.

About once every month or two, I hit the insides and locking mechanism with a light coat of WD-40. Many years on the same cuffs and no rust, and not only am I in Criminal Patrol, but in the Marine Division so they tend to need more loving care than if I was just in criminal patrol.

I use a dry bicycle chain lube occaisionally in my cuffs. It goes on wet, dries in a few minutes, then continues to lubricate after it dries. It does the trick for me.

Rusty handcuffs are a sign you need to use them more.
