Hindi Duty Belt Problem

When I set my belt up according to Bob Hindi's belt system, my flashlight goes behind my gun. The problem I have with this is that you cant draw you weapon and light at the same time. Has anyone that uses the system changed where you put your light?
I would get a Tactical light for my gun, but it doesnt have a rail.

And for thosed that dont know, the belt is set up like this.

Maybe try this:

Left to right: cuffs 12:30 oclock, OC 1 oclock, 3 oclock firearm, glove case 6 oclock,(small of back), radio at about 8:30 oclock, flashlight at 9 oclock, asp on rotating scabbard holder at about 10 oclock, and mag case around 11-12 oclock.

This way you can grab your flashlight with your left hand and your firearm with your right hand.

Everyone likes different things. The Hindi system does not works for all, he is not completely right. But I guess its right for him. Do what works for you. Experiment, I do not want a light on my gun, so my Streamlight Strion is up front on my left side, I have gun on right side.

Hindi specifies where to put the flashlight? I didn't know that. Maybe I have a pre-flashlight version of the DVD.

Also just for info Futuredeputy, I have been on the force for approx. 4 years, in the beginning my belt had no room for anything else. I have the leatherman, pouch for knife, exc... Now after all this time, from behind my gun on my right side to the 9 o'clock position is open, just a baton ring and a flashlight ring, along with 2 keepers. Can't stand all that weight. I was told the longer you are on the force, the less things you will carry on your belt.

This is why I changed his system.... I use a varient. The front half (buckle to Gun and Buckle to taser) are pretty well the same.

The diff with my system is that is your are trying to do a tactical draw of your light and gun nearly simultaineously... the Hindi system has issues. The being the case I put my light carrier behind my radio pouch, moved the glove pouch over a hair towards my gun, and added a set of cuffs directly behind my gun.

It works well for me... The Hindi SAFETY system works well as a general guide for belt design, however it does have a few issues that may not work well for ALL users.

Here's the KenW. duty belt sytem...
If you haven't used an item for a year; take it off.
If you have a taser, don't carry OC anywhere but your patrol bag or coat pocket.
Just slide your ASP into your back pocket.
Put a streamlight stinger or surefire combatlight in the other back pocket.
As long as you have high-capacity mags, just carry one spare; put your exam gloves in the other pouch.




By the way; in plain clothes, so I don't wear a duty belt any more. Everything other than belt badge, pistol, 1 pr cuffs, one spare mag, fits into my pockets. I have a wide variety of good looking cargo pants. Even voice recorder, note pad, business card case, 4" folding knife, and ID case. All else Including vest) stays in the truck.

Put your flashlight in your sap pocket (or leg pocket if wearing Class C pants) on your support side. You should never, ever, have your flashlight in your gun hand.

I keep one flashlight in the same place as you, next to the mag pouch. Best place for a light of that size, you can reach it with either hand whenever you want.

So some guy named the layout of his belt and is "marketing" it? WTF! I'm going to "market" keeping your notepad in the opposite shirt pocket of your ink pen and cuff key, therefore they don't obstruct the pocket opening when you regularly remove your notepad.
