  • Federal Agencies: Negotiating Transfer Date

I just received my formal offer so I will transfering agencies soon. I was told by my supervisor that my current agency has a policy (although she wasn't able to tell me whether it is a written policy) to hold all transfers that are laterals for 30 days. I would really rather get out of here following the next pay period, since, knowing this was coming, I have not taken on any new projects and I have pretty much closed all of my on going cases or updated them to the point I will be capable of in the next month or so.

My question is: Is there a legal standing for them to do this without justification? I know they can do it if there is a justification for up to 90 days, but I don't know if they can just direct a policy of an automatic 30 days.

Thank in advance for your input.
