  • FBI Investigative/Surveillance Specialist

    Hello,

I was wondering how often the FBI Investigative/Surveillance Specialist SSG position opens up.

I applied last year in October but wasn't able to go a head with the process due to responsibilities with my current employer (I was in a 2 year contract that has since expired).

I am hoping to re-apply this year if it opens for recruitment. Is it likely to open up, or do they only hire for this position every few years?

    Thanks in advance!

I thought you had a hook with the Allegheny County PD?
That's what they do, it's a trailer park.

Best thing would be just to call your local field office, and ask a human resource person, or call FBIHQ in Washington D.C. and ask them. There is also a discussion about the topic here http://forums.officer.com/forums/sho...&highlight=ssg

This is the website for your office in PA, http://pittsburgh.fbi.gov/

        God Bless.

SSG will be doing more hiring in the summer and the end of the year. I do not have specifics, but do know there are some hiring initiatives planned around November. They are down a lot of people and are still attempting to fill the ranks. Good Luck!
sigpic Bet they got a ticket for obstructing the rear window. God Bless America!

This is a great "in", but take seriously the mobility clause. They do move many people without regard for personal convenience. The job pays well (automatic journey at GS11), and provides invaluable CI/CT experience as well as an in depth view of the Bureau. It is a sensitive program, so there's not much posted on legitimate sites (including the vacancy announcement), but they do need to recruit quality candidates.
Your right that they don't tell you much about the position in the announcement. Anybody know anymore details about the position?

I love surveillance, but not sure how I would feel about surveillance without a gun, even if it is for non-criminal cases (wasn't even aware that the FBI did that). Now if it were a wire tap gig and you didn't get a gun... that wouldn't be too bad (if you can stand wires).

I applied as well. What type of degree(s)/work experience are they looking for?

and I couldn't get this info off the job annoucement, but does this position get any sort of LEAP pay or OT pay, because it says they work long, odd hours and holidays.
