  • Transfer from to TSA to CBP?

I currently work for TSA and have been concidering tranfering to CBP here in NM. I was going to try with the local Police but already have alot of time vested with the Fed's. Also want out of TSA. Been here for 5 years and am getting the itch to do other things.
Has anyone here ever made this transfer? Could you give me some info on how the process would go? Thanks for any info. I do appreciate it.

Simple. You find a position you qualify for.

    Apply.

    Get a job offer.

    Get an EOD date.

Make sure your last day on the tsa "books" is 1 day before your EOD with CBP.

Give your CBP HR specialist your TSA hr Phone # and they can take care of the rest. The transfering over of your leave and so forth.

I too am hoping to eventually get in with CBP. I have 3 1/2 years with the TSA and have my first test for CBP on Saturday.

I know personally of about 20 people at my airport who have made the transfer within the past year or two.

Good luck furrball, let us know how it goes. Does anyone know the physical requirements of the job? The only thing I saw on the website seems to easy to be true.

i would think that TSA baggage screener to CBP Border Patrol Agent would be a lateral transfer with no further training or requirments ...

            Heh, your funny....

We have a handful of guys at my port that made the transfer over. Let's just say they don't reflect the TSA workforce very well. While I've never worked for TSA before, from what they tell me this job is 100X better then TSA. Unfortunatly, it's not as easy as a lateral transfer. You would have to apply from the outside and, once hired, go through the academy. As for the physical requirements, for CBPO there listed on the CBP.gov website. If you prepare at all they should be really easy. Good luck.

Thanks, Im getting a little nervous, but seeing a couple of the people that went to cbp (not knocking cbp) makes me feel a little more confident

As far as the physical requirements I found this on the cbp site:
              http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/careers/c...r/cbp_officer/

It seems that you and I have similar aspirations, so good luck to you as well!

I was with TSA nearly 3 years and followed in the footsteps of many others.

I am now a CBP/BP employee. My above post covers how I went about it and everything worked out just fine. GL everyone.

                  Hello Everyone,

How is it going? Any news?

I'm in the hiring process with TSA, After a couple of years I hope to do the same move as many of you have done.

Hopefully someday, I might be a CBPO.

                  Good Luck!

you're kidding right?? A freakin TSA screener can lateral to a BP Agent with no further training or requirements? Get off whatever it is your smoking bro! Your talking about a glorified security guard to a Federal Agent position with full arrest authority. Do some research before you post incorrect info or assumptions on this site if you don't know what you are talking about!

And by the way, CBPO and BP physical requirements are totally different.

haha oh god, it clearly a joke.

Anyways, for guys thinking that they need to go into TSA for work experience before CBP, you don't need to. The one benefit is you already get in the federal system, but with such a drastic change in work, it wont make things any smoother.
