Paid EXTRA, sir . Stations pay out 0-4 hours of OT per day while on camp, plus per diem. The amount of overtime varies with funding levels. When OT is high, there will be many more senior agents signing up for camps. You will have to wait your turn in line. Low seniority = back of the line. In times of less OT per day and around holidays you can usually score many.

My station has an FOB. You can literally go as many times as you want so long as your overtime pay cap doesn't project you to go over the allotted amount. Not too much of an issue since actual "OT" is scarce.

FYI...we really aren't "camping." Some FOB's are nicer than others. Some are full buildings with showers, common rooms, satellite TV, kitchens and bedrooms. Others are smaller and made of conex boxes outfitted with A/C and electricity. You aren't exactly roughing it in terms of living conditions. Though FOB's are put in areas harder to patrol from the main station, so you aren't going to be too close to civilization either.

Oddly enough, you get used to the heat after a while. The academy is great fun, more than I thought it would be considering the horror stories that people on here tell.

                • Hi Everyone,
I posted this on the customs officer forum as well, but seeing any additional advice:

Input/comments of my chances to get my Background Completed/Cleared by mid-October 10/15/11 (b/c getting married).
Please note my background is fine, however, there is no forum for non-officer CBP positions but basically going through the same BI process.

Position is w/CBP as a paralegal specialist, submitted Public Trust SF85P-S with supplement questions. Went 7 years back, had 2 different investigators b/c they interviewed everyone, that is why think this forum might help b/c BI seemed to go through the same process. Here is my timeline below:

                  Offer: 5/9/11
                  Eqip submitted: 5/10/11
                  Drug Test: 5/26/11 ish
Meet with BI Investigator Interview: 7/6/11 (submitted their paperwork 7/8/11)
Another Investigator called me doing their portion of where I lived my past 7 years and finished 8/10/11).
As far as I know EVERYONE from my BI has been interviewed (neighbors, work, school, etc....)

Anyone out there who just finished their BI with input if you think I will be adjudicated by 10/15/11?

I think it is going to be difficult for anyone to say. There are guys who have been waiting for years that are just getting called (and I think some still haven't been called). On the other hand, people who applied only about a year ago (and maybe even less in some cases) are getting called. I applied in July of last year and am still waiting - even though some who applied after me have been called. I think it would be very difficult for anyone to tell you if you are going to be hired within the next month or two. Your best bet is probably to call MHC or IA and see what you can find out.

                      • Just curious if anyone has any pointers for the structured interview? What kind of questions asked? I've done structured interviews before for different agencies so I have a general sense of what to expect; does it really take anywhere from 3+ hours? The ones I've done before would last at most about 30 minutes. Also, comparing my time-line to others, is there a set order in which the the hiring process goes? Seems to be moving quick. (not complaining though, lol.)

                        My Time-line:

TSL2/EQIP: 8/8/2011 - Submitted, pending contact from BI?

You're not going to get much assistance when it comes to the questions asked. The only advice I can offer is to start watching Border Wars. As far as the hiring process goes, it is different for everyone.

My OB was scheduled for 8:00 am. They usually bring you in in the order that you arrived so get there VERY early if you want to go first. I showed up at 7:40 and was the third person there, out of 5. Because of the other applicants work schedules, I volunteered to go last (most of the guys only took half days off of work, I took the whole day off). I ended up waiting until 1:00pm to actually go in for the OB but it only lasted about 40 minutes. They will deliberate and go over your responses and decide if you passed or failed. They will bring you back in after what feels like another hour but is actually only 10-15 minutes and tell you right there if you passed.

Dress well, speak clearly and be confident with your responses.

                          Good luck!

The interview itself is pretty short while the wait can be considerably longer (depending on the number of interviewees) Think your responses through and be ready to explain your answers. After the interview, you will find out your results within a few minutes. As mentioned earlier, everybody has a different timeline on when to expect the next step in the process.

Wear a suit! The people that came in without one were fronted out, infront of everyone. They give some scenerio questions and ask what you would do, the only thing I can tell you without getting into specifics; there's a confidential form that you sign during the interview.

By the way, what was your score on the written exam?
