Also, should I start learning spanish now, since I havent taken spanish since high school?Any comments will be nice!
Does your background show completed in Cass ? That's the step that takes the longest.

    • Hello everyone, I'm a newbie here and just got my TO last week. I've done a few steps already for the CBPO position so my question is what transfers over between the two different processes?

            • To those going to Laredo:

Finding vacant apartments in Laredo is a challenge. Hopefully it will be better in Jan/Feb as you are graduating, but DO NOT wait until the last minute to start looking, it's not as easy as apartment hunting in most cities in the "real" world.
I will be moving to Laredo in less than 2 weeks, will be happy to assist anyone with what limited info I have on the area so far.

              Oh, and congratulations!

I will be stationed in Laredo! Let me know how the apartment hunt goes. I don't speak spanish so I have to stay an extra 8 weeks. I guess sometime in December I will start looking around.

                  • Crazy! Well good luck out there! I interned w/ the USMS back here in Jersey while in school. Its a solid job. I was just looking at some apartments in Laredo, over the web. These are some pretty nice places going for about 600 a month. How much are you paying a month?

                    Comment

                    • Well, most of the places i looked at big enough for a family were a minimum of $800/mo. The one we finally settled on is $1200/mo, but our alternates were around the $1000/mo range. Try to look at complexes mostly on the north side of town, south is slumsville. North side has nice shops and malls, mostly new construction.

                      • I was reading the FAQs page and it says that they will pay you to travel from your duty station to the academy, and then back. Are you expected to move to your duty station first, and then leave for the academy, or are most people leaving their current residence straight to the academy, and then worrying about finding a place to live near the end of the academy?

                        • Cool Cool. Thanks for that tip, I'll keep that in mind. I have no kids or married...yet lol. So I'd just stick with a one bed rm. I just noticed some "Dorel Apartments" its on the Southside... Bummer. I guess in January I'll take a look at my options.

I'm taking the PFT2 in Swanton, VT. Soon Anyone else?

I think most wait till after they successfully complete the academy. The person from MHC who I spoke with said that while in the academy we "accrue" (add up) leave time. He said most people use a little bit of that time to move wherever after the academy.

                            • Talked to IA today about my BI, it still isn't checked off and wanted to know more info about it but all she could tell me is that it is still pending..... My drug test says that it is still pending as well but I did that at the same time I did my med. All I can do is wait I guess. Does anyone know when the next start dates are for new classes?
