  • Almost all Border Patrol Stations are located in an undesireable location. Often times, even moving an hour away or more doesn't improve your quality of life very much. The way the Patrol offers EOD dates usually gives people very little time to visit their new duty station.

    Be prepared for the following:
    Extreme temperatures
    Poor healthcare
    Poor schools
    A lack of ammenities
    Rotating shifts
    Unfavorable days off
    A culture shock
    Lack of jobs

This list does not apply to every single station, but they are common realities of many towns on the Southwest Border. Some people can handle it, some people can't. I suggest determining whether you can handle it before you take the job. It's not uncommon to see an Agent living in town, and their spouse/children still living at home.

If you are able to manage these problems it is a fantastic job, either as a full career or as a means of getting experience. If you let these problems dominate your life, you will be miserable.

I am not trying to scare anyone, but its definitely not a vacation.

        • Well, I JUST GOT THE CALL! One of the happiest days of my life! I was offered Naco, EOD Aug. 11th. I'm taking the weekend to "think about it", but I already know I'm taking it!

Good luck to everyone, just stay with it and the call WILL come!

                  Case by Case.

Mine took about 30 days to be checked "complete" after it was submitted and updated to "Your Background Investigation is in The Security Office"

I have a similar timeline, and in some cases started earlier, with those that are receiving "The Call". It may be due to my age. I'm assuming the older you are, the longer it will take for your BI to clear. I turned 30 this year, so I have more information to investigate.

                    • I agree with the guys from the previous post before me... ( I am 34 )
My timeline is similar to most of you guys on here, but the security firm that was in charge of my BI paperwork lost my package so I had to meet with the investigator again three weeks later. Bummer.
                      Patience is a virtue.....

                      • Back in March, I was sent an email that said my hiring process would be expedited since I am being hired under the VRA hiring guidelines. IMO, my process hasn't been expedited. I am still waiting to be contacted by a background investigator and I submitted my e-Qip back in late April.

My background didn't take long to clear, and I'm 31.

Yeah my b.i. has been in the security office for about 10 weeks also and still no b.i. meeting, but i don't think it has to do with age, because i am 23. I am going to email them tonight and checkup if im missing any paper work or anything like that. I think it has to do more with preference, difficult background, and where your from.
