In addition, the medical unit will work with you on the timeline if you stay in good contact with them and your delays are reasonable. I had similar issues and received an NMC letter for vision and neuro. Neither condition prevented me from getting a commission in the Navy and were easy to get cleared. However, my neuro condition required a recent EEG for review (which I didn't have in my military medical record) but because I decided to get one done at the VA medical center here I wasn't have been able to get an appointment before the deadline. The MHC medical unit granted me a couple of two-week extensions in order to ensure that my application wasn't adversely affected.

CASS cleared about four weeks after I sent in my package.

    • Well like many of you I'm still waiting around for my BI to clear. The strange thing is that I met with the investigator back around the middle of July and he was wrapped up with his portion of my case about 2 weeks later. I know this because he called me to let me know he was sending his portion higher and that everything checked out fine. Since then I have only received one call about a week later from CBP pertaining to some dates that they wanted to confirm. I would think that they should be about done but my CASS hasn't budged and I havn't heard anything. Should I be concerned or is it still way to early?

It is not to early......It is WAY, WAY, WAY to early. Your file is amongst thousands that are waiting to be adjudicated by any number of personnel security specialists in the employ of CBP. Some have waited years from the time their background investigator handed in their file to the time they received "the call." As well, it does not matter one iota if your, or anyone else's, background investigator thinks that "everything checked out fine." The background investigator in the field has one job: compile the facts, to submit them in a coherent report that is grammatically correct, and has correct punctuation. That is it. The person who makes or breaks your dreams is the personnel security specialist who adjudicates the report, and whose adjudication decides whether you are or are not suitable for employment. You have alot of time on your hands right now, and it will be better served running and lifting your butt off than worrying about this issue. What will happen, will happen, when it happens. Dig?

P.S. CASS is probably the WORST way to keep tabs on your progress. The telephone system is updated more frequently than CASS is. There have been instances when people have been sent to TSU, EOD'd, and were halfway through the academy when CASS finally displayed all green check marks.

          Thanks.
I had to do further tests on my eyes and it took CASS around 2-3 weeks to check mark it.

My EKG also came back with a small arrhythmia, but they were just letting me know, they did not request any more tests. I asked my sisters who's a DR. anyway and she told me that type of arrhythmia was normal.

Good Luck to Both of you.

I see in your sig line that you also have a pending application with ICE as an IAE, have you called to check status on your application? A new announcement just opened, so I was wondering.

            • I had my medical/fitness exam today and almost everything went well. I had some sort of problem with my depth perception (I got 5/9). Is that going to be a problem? My color vision was fine, I had 20/40 uncorrected and 20/20 corrected, could the perception thing cause a problem?

Man, I took the ICE test before the BPA, they were currently relocating their hiring facilities and they have a big mess there haha. I recieved my packet and I've done my OB. But I have no idea where I stand because I can not communicate with anyone up there.

They will review it and if they feel you need more tests, they will send you a form for you to go to an ophtalmologist/optometrist and do the needed tests.

Just had my test on tuesday (08/25) and I too got 5/9 correct. Nurse told me that was normal....what ever that means. I know a guy who only got 2/9 and ended up going into the Walmart eye place and had them redo the test, the Doc filled out the paper work and he was was cleard. Added about 3 weeks for his medical to clear.

Was that what the monitor said you had, or did that evaluation come from a Doctor?

The ECG it self said "Probable Old Inferior Infarction"....basically I had a silent heart attack sometime in the past. Possible but not probable. The doc that did my physical was confused and sat me down to talk like I was on death's door. I went to a cardiologist today and he said, in his opinion, just reading the ECG he would say it was normal, and I have NO risk factors. He thinks I will be required to do a stress test with echo (picture of my heart). I have one (tentative) scheduled for the end of next week because it is hard to get in. Just waiting now to get my paperwork from MHC to see what they are going to ask for. I'm hoping to get the paperwork before the test. Good times....

                      • I have a question concerning the final offer.

When everything is complete, how does MHC decide who goes where?

Do they first exhaust persons within a given geo pref before going to just anyone? (If that was confusing maybe this will help)

Applicant "A" has completed the process and picked the Havre Sector.
MHC has no openings in that sector.
Applicant "B" has also completed the process and picked the Blaine Sector.

Will MHC offer offer Blaine to Applicant "B" first since that was the geo pref. prior to offering it to Applicant "A"?? or will MHC make the offer on a first come first serve basis, whoever MHC cotacts first gets the pick?

Thanks for anyone that can help answer this question.

I believe they will exhaust applicants with a certain geo. preference, regardless of TSU seniority, before they start calling applicants from other geo. preferences.

Obviously, the Drop of the Hat Club throws a bit of a monkey wrench into the system, but for the most part, I believe it works that way.

I.E. MHC has a job opening for Sweetgrass, MT. If you're a Detroit Sector pref. you won't be offered that position unless all Havre Sector applicants have been used up.

That makes sense. Thanks for the reply.
