  • I just checked the CASS voice line and my background investigation is listed as "completed". Does this mean that it's just cleared the adjudicators or does this mean that MHC is done with with it on their end as well?

    • Does anyone here know if BPA is planning to open up for testing for San Diego soon?

      • I hope this doesn't coming across as looking like an idiot, but here it goes anyways....

I have a TO for the Northern Border and I been trying to find some details of the mission on the NB and exactly what the Agents do up there. I see the ports with a lot of CBP Agents checking vehicles and papers, I just didn't see many BP Agents in the area.

I used to live in Arizona and have seen many Border Patrol checkpoints and various operations throughout the desert, and for obvious reasons. I am really just looking for some clarification on what the actual job and duties include for the NB?

        Thanks for the help.

We do not test for San Diego. When it opens back up, I have no idea when, you can put a preference that you would like to be stationed somewhere in CA.

I was at his funeral as well, and it killed me to see his wife holding the two babies walking behind the casket.

                • Plainclothes duty?

Apologies if this question is off the thread focus, but I saw something interesting this afternoon that has me wondering.

I went to buy a book at the local Borders (in Mission Valley, if that matters) and as I was snaking through the checkout line I noticed an older woman with with an H&K on her left hip. She was browsing the tables set up for impulse purchases in front of the registers, and as I passed her I eyeballed her right hip to see what kind of badge she was wearing. It looked to me to be a CBPO badge based on the lack of the "U" and "S" letters on either side of the seal in the center. "Customs and Border Protection" was plain to see at the top of the shield.

I'm curious why a CBPO officer would be carrying openly in plainclothes. Additionally, I'm curious what jobs, if any, in the Border Patrol would have the same requirement.

                    Maybe this?

The creation of CBP also involved a divestiture - the divestiture of Customs Special Agents, the plainclothes criminal investigators, and the Air and Marine Interdiction Division.

Off the top of my head:

                      CBP Enforcement Officer.
                      court appearance.
                      training/adminstrative duties in a non-uniformed capacity.
                      special operations at the port.
                      Inter-agency Task Force.

Could be someone traveling to/from work too. Maybe it was someone on travel status.

The big question to me is why go book-shopping without covering up? Next time suggest a cover shirt/jacket to her.

                      • Northern Border Suggestions?

I have started the process for BPA for the Northern Border. I was looking for suggestions on which sector to choose for my wish list? I don't want to be sitting around doing nothing. Don't get me wrong, I will take what I get and be happy with it. But if I get lucky, I would like to choose wisely.

                        Thanks for everyone's time.

Scored a 90% on the written...so far so good.

Good job on the exam. You're going to be bored no matter where you are on the northern border. Pretty much all the action occurs on the southern border, especially in the San Diego and Tucson sectors.

If I were chosing northern, I would go with where I wanted to live, and where I would have the best quality of life. To me this would be the Havre sector. Great hunting in Montana and North Dakota. Less Socialistic politicians and confiscatory tax community, as well. Living in expensive areas without a COLA would also be a factor. You can live like a king in on a BPAs salary in Montana but less so in Buffalo, NY.

                            YES, and I wasn't prior military/LE, either.

                              • After completing all the phases and being sent to TSU for the southern border I also went ahead and put in an application for the Detroit Sector. I got a call today from HR saying everything was successfully transfered over to my file and the only additional piece of paperwork that had to be done was a training agreement stating that my field training will take place on the southern border (was already aware of this). Anyway, the lady really sounded like they want to push northern border apps into training so I'd say be optimistic about the outlook of the process (given you pass all the phases).
