What are This forums thoughts on TSA, and the new uniform they will be rolling out this coming year? AS you should know they (TSA) will be issuing gold shields to their officers.

      Here you go:
      http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/tso_uniform.shtm

The one BIG thing I completely disagree with is giving them badges. They should have stuck with the sewn on ones. I GUARANTEE you that within the first week they are issued badges, someone will flash one to a police officer on a t-stop claiming to be a federal agent or something similar. Get ready to see TSA Officer wallets, badge neck chain holders, you name it start appearing. Only actual LEO's should be issued badges. TSA screeners are not LE in any shape or form. There is way too much possibility for abuse IMHO...

I agree completely, but I'll go one further. I guarantee you that the first day that they are issued, some screener, somewhere, will misuse the shield. And God help any screener that flashes one at me and identifies himself as a "federal agent."

I don't know what was wrong with the uniform the screeners were wearing. It was professional looking and they were clearly identified as TSA employees with the sewn on patch.

Yeah but think how cool they will look when they compare their badge to the guy carrying a CCW badge....

What a waste of freaking money.....especially when you look at the fact that ICE can barely afford to have FPS around.....

And several of you are right....someone will be flashing a badge and claiming the are a Federal Agent...... Having worked near a large Airport in the Midwest.....I have stopped/arrested TSA folks (the screeners in KC are actually contractors not GOV employees) and have had quite a few of them cry about us not giving them P/C for traffic cites.....and warrant arrests.....

It's an accident waiting to happen that is COMPLETELY avoidable. Oh well, I guess i'll just sit back and wait for the TV waves to be splashed with images of a TSA screener being arrested for impresenating a federal agent/police officer. Then damage control at TSA will kick into gear and do a press release that all metal badges are being replaced with sewn on ones as an officer safety measure, completely unrelated to the numeorus mis-uses of the metal ones....

Yeap......then I will moan as I think about how much money was wasted....and what they could have done with it to other DHS Agencies....

Wait till one of them pops off to a FAM.....

                My buddies are already waiting......

I'm here in NYC. Wait till one of them pops off to an NYPD officer. Or better yet, a screener is caught smoking weed and pulls the shield asking for courtesy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing all screeners. but I've seen some here in NY that either have no brains or are straight out of the 'hood, yo.

i dont think the badge will be a problem. will they be able to keep it off duty?

with more responsiblity that comes with wearing a badge there will be harsher penaltys.

Its not about Paris but about Federal TSA screeners....stealing. And they get these new badges. I wonder what abuse some TSA screeners will try with these new badges

how many cops break laws? how many of them steal? how much abuse goes on in every field in LE. does that mean we should take all badges and guns away from everyone.

screeners are on camera everywhere they open a bag. if they steal they will get caught.

yeah, you may want to be careful what you report, the news is full of cops breaking laws, too. TSA has a job to do and they may not be as cool as a real cop but remember that the majority of them will do their job and not abuse it just like the majority of cops. The badge in this case is probably unnecessary and not everyone is a wannabe. They just need to be trained on what they can and can't do and if they abuse it treat them like you would any other citizen.
