Remember boys. If you failed the Phase 2 test, you still have about 18 months to go before you can apply again."The only easy day was yesterday"

LightRoast — you and me both. We’ll be eligible in 2024ish. *** cries softly ***
-
IroqouisB Well, I'll let you know if I make it through. I'll be 37 in 2024, so I'm hoping they don't notice.

Are you a veteran or current/prior federal LE?
-
Calitown negative on being a veteran, or being sworn LE. I’m currently an IA (1802) for HSI and was previously with CIS for a year and ERO as a contracted analyst for 5 years.

Guys on Reddit are saying a gs9 is in the works for later in the year.
-
ASecretSquirrel — that announcement will be heavy in current USSS 1811 laterals. Lol. If you’re eligible, this announcement is the one to apply to.
-
Nope I get it. But GS9 is already a pay cut I’ll take my chances. If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be.

@iroquoisB, oh I know it. I applied!

Hey! Any recommendations on writing a resume for this? It looks like my go-to resume will not be adequate. I found a website that talked about listing every job I have had for the last ten years. Is that something I have to do? Any help would be appreciated.

For example, if someone is currently a patrol cop with three years on, and was a manager at an Applebee's for 6 years before that, I wouldn't personally list that. But at the same time, an Applebee's manager may have more justified use of force incidents than a patrol cop, so maybe you should.
Point being is if you are clearly qualified for this job because of your current gig, and you've been at the current gig for the minimum amount to meet the KSAs and experience, they don't need jobs listed that have no bearing on this one. The last ten years don't matter if the last 4 were what qualifies you.
Also, keep in mind that resumes for large scale announcements like this are almost guaranteed to be scanned by a computer instead of a person to make qualification determinations, so make sure you're hitting some of those KSAs and experience words in your resume, so long as you're telling the truth. A great example of this would be the many friends and friends of friends I have personally recruited into some of the entry level uniform Federal LE jobs. A buddy will ask me to talk to his coworker who wants to jump fed. I'll talk to him and give him the pros and cons, and then sometimes they say they're going to go ahead and apply. I'll ask if they want help with their first USA Jobs resume. "Nah bro I'm good I got a good one".
Two months later they hit me up and ask why they got a not qualified email for entry level 5 FLE jobs, when they have been a officer or deputy for 6 years. I ask to see their resume, and when they send it to me, the answer is obvious. They have a great cop resume that would be top of the pile if they were applying to another local PD or really any non-fed job with computer scanned application resumes. List their positions in the department, accomodations, awards, details and units they've worked. But they don't mention 'arrested individuals', 'dealt with difficult people ', 'made decisions under stress', and so on. Because that would be ridiculous on a cop's resume when applying to another local department or SO.
However, those (or similar) phrases and words were the minimum qualifications/experience/KSAs for that announcement. And if the computer doesn't see them, you're a no go. We get back together tune their resume up, bascially just working those key words and phrases into their existing one, they submit it on the next continual announcement (for agencies that always have openings, BP, Customs, USSS UD, etc), and bam, they make the cut and begin the hiring process.Last edited by battlewagon; 01-12-2023, 10:04 PM.UNITED STATES BORDER PATROL

I get what you’re saying. If I was the manager of a Waffle House, I would definitely put that because I could list deals with difficult people, has to use force to protect self or others, and performs well under stress. Lol
In my skill section, I listed some of those key words. Thanks for your help though.
