    Good evening, sent my email to the East Texas Marshal recruiter a week ago and got a reply back today. Im a FLEO of 2 years, and this is my first attempt for the DUSMS. Anyone else going through ETX?? Also the how is the informational meeting?? is it basically a pre-screening interview?? Scenario?? I just want a general idea of what i'm going into. .

      You will get an introduction with a couple recruiters, watch a video and fill out a questionnaire. It's pretty basic.

      Just did my interview. I think it went well, not sure. Gotta love the power of second guessing yourself. Hopefully I dont get the "thanks but no thanks" email.

        When abouts did you go to your info session? Mine was last week of January, and I got my referral a month ago. Still haven’t gotten the email to schedule my interview

        I had my info session in Syracuse in I believe the second week of January. So less then six months for the structured interview.

      So do the USMS not typically post general USA jobs links?i am a year out of college with experience in non-criminal investigations. My bachelors is not related to LE. Is it worth applying?

        You will have to do an information session first, then they invite you to apply.

        I think the last time they posted was in 2017 or 2018. Since then, you have to contact a recruiter to start the process. Its called schedule B hiring and there are a few other agencies that do this as well (ATF, DEA).

        Now, if it's worth applying or not, I'd say yes. You have nothing to lose by applying. You can still qualify at GL-5 under the education option.

        GL-05: To qualify at this grade level, you must meet ONE of the following:

        General Experience: You must have 3 years of progressively responsible work experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level, that demonstrates:

        Tact and ability to meet the and deal with a wide variety of persons in all walks of life;
        Ability in oral expression;
        Ability to make decisions and act quickly under stress;
        Problem-solving ability; and
        Ability to prepare clear and concise reports
        Such experience demonstrates the ability to acquire particular knowledge and skills sufficient to perform highly structured entry-level work designed to develop broader and more in-depth knowledge and skill to perform higher level assignments.

        OR

        Education: You must have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) a 4-year course of study above high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in any field.

        What is the starting salary for someone who enters at GL-5? From what I understand, it’s pretty low, and you don’t get LEO pay.

          Depends on locality pay but here are ranges for Rest of US:

          GL-5, 7, and 9 are LEO pay scale (GL). It switches to the GS pay scale at GS-11 then on to 12 and 13.

          “NOTE: Locality rates for “law enforcement officers” (LEOs) (as defined in 5 U.S.C. 5541(3) and 5 CFR 550.103) are computed using special base rates for LEOs at grades 3 through 10, as authorized by section 403 of the Federal Employees Pay Comparability Act of 1990, as amended. The LEO annual locality rates at other grades match the rates for other (non-LEO) employees”

          GL-5, 7, and 9 are 0082 series and do not get LEAP
          GS-11, 12, 13 are 1811 series and do get LEAP, so multiply the pay step by 1.25. And you spend one year at every pay grade for 52 weeks.

          GL-5 is pretty low at $44,545 but in three years it will go up to $82,767. Two more years after that it would be $117,966.

          GL-5 is below poverty. The recruiters will straight up tell you that. However, you get huge pay bumps until you hit the 11/12 and get your 1811 with LEAP.

          You go from oatmeal and ramen to steak and shrimp within 5 years.

        What’s up fellas. Here to share my process and timeline as well. My stats:

        Currently an 1811. 9 years with the Fed and 5 years with a CA municipal PD prior to that.

        -Applied 10/2021
        -Referral email 12/2021
        -Structured interview 01/2022 (in San Diego)

        I believe the next step will be the tentative offer letter (TOL). I was told it could take anywhere from 3 to 7 months to receive the TOL after the structured interview.

        Only advice I can give you guys is be patient and definitely don’t sit around and wait for this process to finalize. While you wait, apply for other jobs; preferably in law-enforcement, and continue to sharpen the sword in whatever way you can.

        Also, while you wait, continue living a healthy lifestyle and prioritize fitness in your daily regiment. Don’t be that guy that gets to the end of the process and then gets bounced out for fitness.

        I’ll continue to update you guys and I appreciate you guys doing the same. This thread is awesome and the positivity definitely helps!

          Hello and thank you for your advice.

          I’m curious, and respectfully, what 1811 agency are you willing to leave for a 0083?

          Does anyone know if you’re able to negotiate to get a GL-7 if you were only offered a GL-5? I have heard that you could with USMS just not higher than an GL-7. Because I’ve known multiple applicants in this current announcement who are currently GS-11/12 Federal LEO’s for 3+ who were only offered GL-5.

            Yes. This was brought up during my information session. When you get on-boarded, you can negotiate with HRD on why you deserve to be a GL-7. One of the recruiting DUSMs personally attested to this.

            This is great news, thanks. I’m currently a GS11 with 10+ years total LE experience and was only found eligible for the GL5 lol. I was told by OPM it was because I “formatted my resume incorrectly.” In essence, because I did not paste and copy the KSAs verbatim into my resume.

              When I completed my Structured Interview I was given a sheet of paper that stated you will be notified if you don’t pass the interview within 30 days. Does anyone know if they usually stick to this timeline or does it vary?
