More like 2 hours total. Interviews like 30 minutes. Yes it’s a panel. And just look online for some federal interview questions they’re out there

I believe I was checked in and out in under 30 minutes.

In terms of advice. Practice the STAR method. Everyone who has had the inferview signs a non-disclosure, so no one will be willing to discuss particulars.

  • Just received email stating I’m clear to be placed into the hiring pool. Anyone know what happens from here or a possible time frame?

Forever, been in process since October 2020 and been in hiring pool since august 2022 and unless you’re a vet it seems like you’re not gonna be picked super fast. Vet preference then the regulars after that, just changed fiscal years so it’s gonna be a while I’m assuming

I have been in the process since February of last year. So around 11 months now. It’s been moving along fairly quick for me.

  • Did anyone that was offered a 5 instead of a 7 request to be contacted when they received their TOL? Anyone know how long it took to get back?

I was offered a 5 with 8 years Leo, 4 year degree, and vets preference. I accepted the five but I emailed them afterward. I just didn't want it to take longer than it's already going to. I have yet to hear back and that was two weeks ago.

I was offered 5 with USMS, 7/9 with ICE, 9/11 with BLM and previously 9 with BP.

I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

I guess I’ll go back and accept the 5 for now. I reached out per the email and did request originally to be contacted, but I don’t want to delay any longer at this point. My interview alone was 5 months ago.

  • Can anybody share some info. Does the Employee Medical Programs Office of USMS reach out for applicant medical via phone or email? I ask because there is a new tap regarding medical exams on my USAjobs staffing website. I have not yet received any emails, however, I did miss several mysteries phone calls last week when I was gone on a trip.

That tab appears to be a glitch in the system. Someone a few pages back said they saw the same tab, contacted HR and were advised to disregard said tab.

To answer the first part of that question; HR e-mails you about medical and they will give you a phone number to call when you tell them where you live.

  • No Information Sessions in FY23 and it looks like there’s a new USMS 1801 position they’re trying to create. I’ve attached a snipped of the announcement from some actual DUSMs that’s been floating around.

A lot of positive changes IMO.

Steelfball22 - I’m thinking a bit ahead. But I’m looking at it more from the perspective of a DUSM (1811) later on. Obviously a lot of retirements are on the horizon. So unfortunately, in some districts, 1811 DUSMs aren’t doing 1811 work. They’re manning the court rooms and assisting the 082s with prisoner transports.

Moving forward, I have the opinion that 1811 DUSMs will eventually be exclusively tied for Missing Children Units and FugOps. This will help fulfill a lot of mission readiness, since USMS was recently honked by DOJ OIG for needing an additional 1,200 deputies to accommodate their mission needs.

So does that mean we would be potentially hired as 1811s?

ArthurMorgan - IDK when the policy officially goes into effect, but those who were processing as 082s have a potential to be onboarded as GS 7/9 1811s, since they’re phasing out the 082 series. When that happens, IDK.

All I know, is it’s a good time to be in this process.

Ah ok, that would be a benefit to all of us

  • Saw this on Reddit, so I can’t confirm it’s validity but if it’s true this is huge.

New 1801 Position - The USMS is embarking on putting in place a new uniformed component that will be known as officers and take over all court related duties, JPATS AEO duties, DEO duties, and other duties as assigned. The goal is to implement the new position in FY23/24

This program will do the following:
    1. Increase the ability of the courts to conduct various hearing and trials.
    2. Move the current 1811 workforce from court and custody operations to investigative operations in Judicial security, missing children, sex offenders, federal, state, and local fugitives. This allows the USMS to address issues being raised by OPM that 1811s in the USMS are not truly all criminal investigators.
    3. The Court leadership at the AOUSC has already been part of the meetings and supports the effort.

Makes the process of not knowing where you’re going sting just a little bit less.

What do you think the turnover would be like for that 1801 position. I could see a lot of people taking it then jumping to more field oriented 1801s like FPS, BIA, HSI-TEO etc.

  • Well just got the phone call stating I will be going to an academy this fiscal year. I’m pretty pumped now. No exact time frame besides it will be within the next 8 months. Only been in the process for 11 months so my process moved super fast. Been in the hiring pool for less than a week.

I’m getting lots of messages, and questions, and a big part I’m assuming my process has been quick is because I was already cleared for a TS clearance from another agency that was fresh. Therefore it eliminated a good 3-6 months from my process.

Kennywc it has been the bottle neck. There seem to be some expedited processes going on now. The fact that someone only 11 months into the process is selected for an academy already is unheard of. Who knows what the heck is going on these days.

In all honesty, a two-year timeline is completely reasonable. Especially for an agency as desirable as USMS.

I understand having to redo the fitness test to show you’re maintaining fitness levels, but can you do that local or do you have to travel?

From what I have been told you can do it at your nearest office. But the only consistent part of this process is the inconsistency. So don't fully rely on my response.

    • Current Fed LE here. Reached out to Recruiter several months ago and was put on email list for next info session. But I'm seeing in here that there's no info sessions in FY23? If so, how do you know? I followed up with Recruiter last week and he said he's hopeful there will be info sessions this year. Said not to email multiple Districts and be put on their email list too.. anyone have experience with this?

I like that USMS seems to be going through a push to hire a lot and send ppl to the academy this year and next year. Also will new hires automatically start as 1801's now with this newly formed position? I'm just trying to attend an info session first and get the ball rolling here cause I know its a long process. I'm 28 now and would rather not go through the academy when I'm 32-33 but of course I will if I have to! Just trying to see if anyone else has received any credible word as far as to what's going on this year with info sessions/hiring/academy start dates etc.

I know USMS is known for its lengthy hiring process that could take anywhere from 18 months - 4 years and it's a case by case basis but would like to hear from others what the word on the street is.

01010101 that's great that your process is happening in faster steps than from others that had it paused due to covid and backlog of classes. I haven't applied to any other 1811's, lot of them have very minimal application periods on usajobs that are only open for 48 hours max. Holding out for Marshals tho, but as always, never hurts to have backup plans.

The new position looks like it would be something completely different and would allow for those currently in the pipeline for 0082 to start off as 1811 at the gs-7/9 rate with leap depending on when all that goes into effect

01010101 If you look at that post, it doesn’t say he has a scheduled/confirmed academy date. A district office said he would go to the academy in the next 8 months or so. If you look at other guys’ timelines that have been hired and went off to the academy, they received an academy date after completing the FIT test, drug test, receiving a final offer, and often getting set up with your onboarding date. Guys have received emails from HRD saying they’re cleared for upcoming academy classes 6+ months ago that still haven’t made any progress.

eagle17 As far as timelines moving forward, no one knows. Only thing you can do is see what people that are hired post regarding their timelines and see how much things start speeding up. There are four academy classes scheduled for the remaining fiscal year, which ends in October.

    • So in onboarding I have a task that states, "medical:applicant scheduled medical exam", but I haven't received an email with instructions on what to download, or what to do next. Anyone have the same experience?
