I received an email on Nov 23rd and it said “We will notify FOH for medical exam set up” I haven’t heard anything else since then. Should I email them back?

I was a frequent emailer, no harm in it. But right now they are finalizing a budget adjustment and its the government so basically shut down until the new year. They were good about scheduling my stuff. They were not great about letting me know where I was in the process. I emailed for an update and thats how I found out I cleared background, same for medical. After your background and medical I would wait 45 days then email every few weeks, politely asking for an update.

How does this work? The day before my interview in SLC I had an emergency within my household. Due to the significance of the emergency I completely forgot about the interview until a week later after the interview. I emailed HRD and advised them. Do I have to wait a year to join another info session or you think I can join another info session the next one opens up? I also asked this question to HRD. Thanks -j

So, we had a no-show at my Dallas interview. We all signed in when we got there, and they had packets with our names on it. They called his name he wasn’t there and they ripped his packet right in front of us and threw it away. I'll be honest. Emergencies happen can't get around that. If you had emailed them at least the day after your interview and explained the situation, you may have been good.
But to not do it until a week later, it doesn't look good on your part. In their eyes they may think you weren't serious about it, even with your situation. They may make you wait a year, because you'll be listed as a no show, which is essentially getting dropped from the process. I would wait for a response from HRD though. Good luck.Last edited by jamesch20; 12-11-2022, 11:57 AM.

I’ll be taking a 65k pay cut from another fed agency taking this job. I won’t make my pay back until I’m GS13 in 5 years after academy. For myself I’m doing it for a new experience and have no LE experience. Anyone in similar situations and how do you reconcile that major pay cut

TonySoprano I get that response lol. I agree with cft2020. But the money will be remade. You got one life to experience is my philosophy on it. Can always get the money but not your time or experience.
Gabulldogs88 why do you think it’s worth it for you on the long run? Are you current fed LE?
CFT2020 wow and I thought I had it rough. That’s incredible man you really are committed. What is your current job/position? Sounds like you’re already a high gs13 or 14. I’m coming from a non LE fed agency with no experience so I wanted to try something new and possibly a bit more engaging than my current job

Yeah man, I miss what I had in the Marine Corps. After grad school I have worked as an engineer at rolls Royce, manufacturing leadership in some fortune 50 and Fortune 500 companies. I’m not in a gs role and have never been. I am a director of operations for a fortune 1000 CPG company. Even in the corporate world there is a lot of time away from family, a lot of BS and bureaucracy. Making money doesn’t directly correlate to a better life. I made 12k my first year out of the marine corps and my best year was well over 350k. I just want a challenge, adventure, and opportunity to help, opportunity for advancement.

CFT2020 that’s incredible man I’m gonna be honest, I am taking the pay cut now because I fear if I make too much money, it will shackle me into never going after some of the things I’ve wanted to do. Golden shackles so I figure I may as well take the lay cut now while it’s not as big a hurt. You just start getting used to living a lifestyle with too much money. I was in the marines too air wing tho got out in 2014. There has been no other job that quite had the camaraderie as the corps so hopefully that’s the case with the marshals

I know any information is appreciated here as I’ve went through the process a handful of times with other agencies.
I was in the group that got an email saying scheduling interviews for my region was no longer available this year. It was corresponded that those would be scheduled in February / March. I asked if the interview will be for those months or if I can only expect scheduling requests during that time frame. They advised that the delay at this time was due to getting final approval on the budget for 2023, which is wrapping up this week. The budget doesn’t affect our interviews, just needs wrapped up before they can proceed with scheduling.
Do they reach out via email or phone to schedule interviews? Thanks!

Anybody know if and when they send out a wish list of your top 5 locations? I have a friend who was recently hired as a DUSM and he said he got a wishlist but couldn’t remember at what stage. I just got notification I passed the interview.

I’m cleared for hire. Havnt received a wishlist but when I inquired about it they said I could email them my top choices and they would make a note in my file. From what I hear when they are filling academy spots with cleared to hire folks they reach out with available districts. Anyways, it’s towards very end.

How long do they take to contact you for your medical? I’m going on a cruise coming up and I hope they don’t schedule me to do something during that time. If they do who do I contact to try to reschedule?

Unless by cruise you mean a 15th Meu for 6-8 months you’ll be fine. You still need to received a TOL which often takes months after the interview. Then background and medical. Also for my experience at least, they reached out and helped schedule I never received a hard date for medical without communication and assistance in scheduling. Congrats on passing the interview.
