there's no consistency to this process, I was a Feb 22 info session. I have friends from the same session with same status waiting to do medical or backround, but i did mine back in December/January. It's so random.

Just want to add incase anybody else is wondering - not all of us 10 pt vets got the recent emails. I am still waiting on notification that my background had cleared, never got an email about being eligible in August so I’m assuming I have no shot in 2023.

Feb 22 info session. Also have a buddy on the same timeline as me (also 10pt vet) but waiting on his medical instead of background.

IroqouisB Thanks for the detailed info, this was the same stuff I found. I think your guess is pretty solid. I know this is frustrating for myself and others because I was a 5pt vet at the time of the info session/interview, but received a VA rating of more than 30% before the medical portion but was told I cannot be upgraded to a 10pt preference during the process.

Walle are you 30%+ 10pt vet? I have almost the same timeline as you and IroqouisB and I'm a 10pt vet but only at 10% and I did not receive the August class email.

I believe the combination of what districts you listed as your preference, making your name known to district recruiters, and a significant amount of luck has to do with the selection...

I think veterans are selected in tier groups. I grabbed this straight from OPM, and if I were a betting man - I imagine priority is given to these statuses from top to bottom (pictured below).

This is of course, all pure speculation, as I am just as perplexed as the rest of you...

Walle This is true. I wasn't sure if you had indicated a preference for districts that may be short staffed or some of the less desired ones. But I agree, I think that the 10pt Vet preference has a large influence over it. Now wondering how much being a 5pt vet even helps in that scenario.
