    January 22 - info session
    February 22 - testing
March 22 - notification of passed tests
    June 22 - schedule interview
    July 22 - interview
    July 22 - notification passed
    September 22 - TOL
    October 22 - Docs received

    Stay the course

-side note: I couldn’t understand before why some people get to the end of the process and turn the offer down, but now I definitely see how it happens. I’m committed and motivated to do it don’t get me wrong but it’s been 10 months. I’ve started a new career in that time because I need to pay bills lol. I will probably be promoted before my background check even finishes and will then have to decide if I’m going to take a VERY substantial pay cut. It’s a long road ladies and gents. Curious what other peoples situations are/what you all are doing in the meantime.

Right? That's not entitled, 2+ years is such a long time and like you said your SO can have a career as well as yourself and taking a pay cut might not be feasible for most. I wonder what I'll do with my time after I get a job and don't have to compulsively check my email a thousand times a day lol

My time line is similar as yours. I am still waiting for a TOL from the DC area. I was in patrol back in Jan. I took a promotion as a Detective in August. Life is good right now. I will take an offer close to MD, if it’s presented to me. I am not willing to relocate the family out of state.

also keep in mind the hiring process doesn't actually start until you receive your TOL, that's when the projected 12-18 month timeline kicks in. An absolutely insane amount of time I know.

Relatable, I starting with an info session in December 2020. Waiting for med to clear. Accepted a new role, which requires relocation. If I leave prior to 12 months I have to pay back all the relocation which will be around 60k. Then the pay cut from my current role to USMS is about 100k. See where the cards fall. Good luck to you.

  • TOL received this afternoon.

    • Is there somewhere that shows some of the benefits offered by the USMS? I feel like I could take a slight pay cut if the benefits are solid enough to justify it.

        • Has anyone who received a TOL and submitted their onboarding documents checked their onboarding portal again recently? I see I have a tab that says medical with a date, and it says, "Applicant Scheduled Medical". However, I haven't been notified of anything regarding medical. Pretty much radio silence since I submitted my documents.

Also, on another note, I heard from the grapevine that pretty soon USMS is going away from the 082 series as entry level. You will be hired on as an 1811 rather than waiting until you hit GS-11.

IroqouisB Ignore that Applicant scheduled medical tab I emailed them about that and they said they were having issues with the system. Still waiting on medical appointment to be scheduled.

        • Just checked, mine says the exact same thing. Appt is dated for next week so I’m sure they’ll reach out soon..?

          • Kennywc Hopefully they didn't schedule the appointment and forget to notify us. This happened with me for the ICE process.

Don’t feel bad. They took accountability and knew they messed up. They re-scheduled me an appointment literally a few days later.

          • I received my TOL, late last night.

based on the timelines ive seen here, you most likely won't get a TOL until December

          • TOL received late this evening . Interview was in July

            • Is how they assign you a duty location based off of the region they hire you out of? I have heard conflicting information so maybe someone knows the actual answer.

this announcement is a nationwide announcement. Meaning you'll be placed in a hiring pool for the country and specific regions head USM has to pick you, It would make sense for them to pick people who are already local but look through this forum, plenty of people have had to move across the country too,

            • Has anyone ever heard of someone being hired by USMS as higher than a GL7?

Okay that’s kinda what I heard as well. Is it possible to negotiate up to a GL7 if you get offered a 5? I’ve heard of a lot of guys doing that once they receive their TOL.

Well, it will only go one of two ways. You wont know if you don't at least make an attempt..

              • Started the process January 2022, and received TOL mid August. Beginning of September got notified that HR received all initial paperwork (background and college transcripts) beginning of October I got scheduled for the medical which will be mid November. I’m still waiting for the eqip! Who should I email and inquire for the eqip/background package?

Mandony I am in the same timeline spots as you, I've heard nothing from HR for the background already have a TS/SCI but not sure if they will take it. I would email the email they gave us on the TOL for it. Regardless it usually will take at least 4-8 months for a background check to clear.
