Thanks. What's the timeline like from application to start date? Do they accept an existing OPM clearance / BI?

6-9 Months pre-COVID. They accepted my previous clearance and did a few follow-up interviews.

Thanks for posting, that was very good of you.

Awesome thanks for the heads up!! I’ve been interested in this position and I never could seem to find a posting for it. Looks like a good way to transition into an 1811 with ATF down the road. Where’d you get this info by the way?

According to the FederalSoup thread, being former/current LE or having ambitions to that could set you back. They don't want people who are going to use this as a stepping stone to an agent job. The panel is going to want people who are happy being IOIs for many years.

@griffenlocke - I was hired as an IOI straight out of the Army. Using IOI as a stepping stone is highly frowned upon within the Bureau by 1811s/IOIs alike. Still in the ATF 1811 process but jumped ship immediately to an 1811 position with a different agency.

IOI is an awesome gig but wasn't for me being a former infantryman in my 20s.

Thanks. I just looked at it. I have a background with criminal firearms law and think I'd enjoy the position, but I decided not to apply. I'm 35 now and in a covered-LE job, and want to keep the door open for an 1811 job down the road. How long were you an IOI for?

Determined to be ineligible based on my response to the assessment questionnaire.

Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. Current ATF contractor, tailored resume to announcement and was confident in my assessment responses.

I was too. Doesn't make sense because I qualify on education alone and answered yes to the complying questions in the application. I would suggest emailing [email protected] like I did to see if we get a response.

Yes I replied to the individual HR rep who emailed me but I’ll be following up with an additional email to that other email address if I don’t get a response here soon. Weird.

I just went into the track application section on USAJobs and saw it there once I was redirected. Thank you! I’ve been applying since 2016.

Got referred today, hopefully I hear back. I have no desire to be an 1811, so I have been looking for a position like this.

Also got referred. Anyone know what’s next or how long before the next email?

Same here - I wonder what now other than wait. My emails says I was among the best qualified and was referred to the selecting official for consideration and that I was referred to the hiring manager.

I guess it is just a waiting game now, these jobs are always so difficult to get and usually take forever

I applied for the October 2020 announcement. I just finished my background yesterday. My investigator said they are hoping to have alot of us in a class starting 12 April.i made it very clear that I wanted to use this as a step to 1811 and am even already in the atf SA process. Noone has told me that it was looked down on and actually said that alot of IOIs do it.

How long did you wait for an interview after referral? Congratulations btw. Did they mention other class dates other than April?

        • #13
They seem to move rather quickly. I just got my interview date.

3 classes this FY. April, July, and Sept. I turned down the final offer. Couldn't get the pay right. They said that the salary listed on the announcement was not correct and wanted me to start 6k less than what was advertised.

What did they offer you? What Grade/Step did the application say vs what they offered you?

          • #15
            Interviewed March 16, 2021.
Received a “Post IOI Interview Email” and what to do with finger prints cards.

What did the email say? So you have to take fingerprints?

I took finger prints prior to my interview.
It just told me where to send the fingerprint cards once I get a Tentative Offer. And not to send them in advance prior to getting a TO.
