So I always had questions about these detective positions for the different military branches. What exactly are they? It says they cover investigations not within the scope of AFOSI, so like DUIs? It is also a GS-08 with no promotion potential, so is this more or less a dead end job? Also are they covered by 6C for retirement?

I assume it’s like the civilian version of MPI (military police investigations). They would investigate anything that doesn’t fall within OSI’s purview (larceny cases, credit card fraud, domestics, etc.). From what I’ve been told, they aren’t covered by 6c.
