You email a recruiter...it's all schedule B hiring. Talk to a recruiter and they collect resumes. If they like what they see then they will send you an invite to apply to a private announcement. It might be a few months before they send you the invite just FYI.

Not sure if its dependent on area, but the email I got stated I would be able to apply early June.
-
Adrenaline54 yep same for me, just glad to get the process started
-
It's only area dependent based on the field division. Unless it has changed generally they open it up every couple of months almost like waves. It used to be each field division could submit X number of names to apply. Not sure if they still limit the numbers or just take as many as they can.

I thought recruiters were listed on the field division pages and appear to be wrong. Call the field division you reside in and ask to speak to a recruiter. They might not have one designated and might be an additional duty for some. Let them know you are interested in being a special agent and the schedule B process to get your name in the hat. Or if you are law enforcement and have a good reputation as a worker with the agents in your local office talk to them about it.Last edited by JingleHeimerJiffy; 12-06-2022, 07:49 PM.

Differs for everyone, but it seems it is usually 2-4 years. I know that's a big gap, but it seems to be that general timeline. Though I believe ATF is trying to hire a lot right now so the timeline may be condensed significantly.
-
Usually around 3 yet there are still some in here who have had their application in 5 years and still no call. And if you look at the budget request for 2021 I believe you will see they requested additional agents...think around 200 or so. Will have to see what budget gets approved.

Hey guys/gals. Just wanted to take a second to offer some advice in regards to this process. It is a long one and one that will have long spells where u hear nothing. Once you start the process hang in there and be patient. As long as you don't get the dreaded "thanks but no thanks letter you are good."
ATF is an awesome agency to work for with a great reputation. The work agents do makes a difference. You will hear it again, but i will be the first to say it. If u get on with ATF its like winning the lottery.Last edited by mih pihsrow; 06-08-2020, 08:11 AM.

I’m currently in ATF’s Schedule B process. I took the written exam on Aug 31st; I emailed recruiting and they said exam scores will be emailed end of September. Just an FYI

For those of you looking for a solid workout program to follow for maintaining/getting into PTT shape, check out Mtn Tactical. It’s geared towards LEO and Military personnel and you can find programs tailored for federal PTT. ATF isn’t listed but they have FBI/DEA programs which are similar and have worked well for me on getting ready for the ATF PT. Here’s the link: https://mtntactical.com
