They’re cancelling classes starting in September? Whew!

I would assume they’re anticipating a fall wave of COVID.

Possibly. Another poster said they plan on opening back up in the summer to resume classes for those who were already there. And they're going to limit capacity for the entire campus by quite a bit.

That means they would actually continue with classes but they'd definitely have to cancel a bunch of future classes so they could finish everyone who was already there but also stay under capacity (I was seeing that they plan on letting something like 900 people go at a time).

We'll see, but fingers crossed for you!

Ok but these all seem to be classes that require hand to hand or close proximity with another person. Could be they're cancelling them due to the COVID measures they're implementing.

Correct me if I'm wrong but one is control tactics and another isuse of force training. Doesn't mean that all classes are cancelled perhaps. Just certain ones.

I'm curious as to housing and quarantine would work. I was there for training earlier in the year and people were staying in hotels off-site for some classes. I hope with the delay in classes, FLETC figured out their capacity issues.

Additionally, going back to FLETC after being in class for a while, straight-up blows. I was evacuated for a hurricane and was about a month out from graduation.

Good luck to those going back to class and good luck to those waiting for a class date.

The current plan FLETC has is everyone will be housed on center and no students will be allowed to leave from the time they arrive to the time they complete training.

People have been staying in offsite hotels for courses there for many years so there is no figuring anything out. They just do not have enough space for the amount of training the G requires. That is why Fletc builds locations in other parts of the country. Also some agencies want to create their own training programs outside of the fletc bureaucracy. Some agencies do not like the limits Fletc places on them as far as training. Some agencies feel fletc is too soft. Naturally Fletc doesn't like this and wants to keep the training/$$$$ under their umbrella even though they lack the capacity to effectively train people in a timely manner.

If the capacity is severely capped to 1/3 of usual throughput due to the virus for more than a few months, and agencies begin panicking with not meeting their staffing needs due to attrition/retirements/transfers, I wonder if this will spark any widespread change... at least with the hurricanes, they are only closed for short periods and generally resume back at full capacity, unlike current conditions/plans.

How would students be able to get items for their rooms; beer, water, chips, toothpaste, shaving cream etc? FLETC Express would have to expand greatly. You can’t go 3 days without needing something from Wal-Mart. Would G Bar be open?

That's not called training. That's called incarceration.

(My deepest condolences to those of you who will suffer such a fate. You'll be done with the G bar by week two...)

Are you allowed to have things delivered? I’m thinking getting a pallet of canned stuff from Costco delivered may be the way to go so you don’t die from malnutrition.

If I were headed there for 26 weeks (but no leaving the center), I'd arrive with a Uhaul packed with beer and vittles.

Maybe it's for the best that fletc is going total lockdown, seeing how Glynn county is about to go full Ferguson...

I really don't understand how the plan that is being proposed to not allow people off of FLETC during training can legally fly. This isn't the military. Plus, there are a lot of agencies that send people to FLETC for training that are not technically in a traditional law enforcement position (i.e. TSA Officers, TSA Inspectors, ATF IOI, USCIS). How can you hold people in civilian positions to this level of standard and demand from a legal standpoint?

This is serious question. Please don't respond with "because it's the government, they can do whatever they want".

They are not going to force you to go, I’m sure people will be made well aware of the rules before attending. I also don’t think the campus lockdown is a long term solution.

You're not the only one asking this. Can an employer restrict what you do in your off hours including weekends and holidays, especially if you are not being paid for those weekends and holidays? I don't see how they can and fire you for not complying because you had to get something from a local store like a prescription from the local pharmacy or personal hygiene items.

It’s a pretty unique time and I am relatively certain they will have documentation for all trainees to sign. If you are unwilling to comply or refuse to sign then I am sure your stay there will be short lived. I wouldn’t want to be locked down for weeks on end either but these are the times we live in (at least for now).

The more people/programs they train the more $$$$ they get regardless if they can do it effectively or not. Its always about the dollars. Always.

Simple: you are an employee in a training program. Follow the rules or be unemployed.

                Your choice.

It actually is that simple. First, and foremost, you don't have to take the job. If you don't like their rules, don't go. Keep doing whatever it is you do. But when you accept the job, a condition of your employment is to SUCCESSFULLY complete basic training. Your basic training is held at FLETC. Therefore, in order for you to complete basic training, you need to follow FLETC rules.

Correct, it's not the military. You can leave anytime you choose. FLETC doesn't fire you. They simply report back to your agency that you have been removed from training for failure to comply with the rules. You then have to report back to your duty station. Maybe your agency will let you hang around in the office for a while (without making LEAP) before sending you back. Most likely, however, they will terminate you because you didn't complete basic training. You're not qualified to do the job.

I'm certainly not saying it will be enjoyable. I couldn't imagine doing FLETC without a car, much less not being able to leave. Unfortunately that's how it's going to be for a while.

The local and state academies that are live in that I know of allow students to leave on weekends and holidays. I'm curious as to how FLETC can legally restrict someone from getting their meds or other personal hygiene items. While FLETC is on an old military base, it isn't one today and unlike most military bases, it is not self sufficient. I could see this working on maybe an actual military base that has other food options, a grocery store (commissary) and department store (px).

FLETC has a med center staffed with doctors and nurses. They also have most prescription medication available at no cost. Can't imagine anyone having serious medical issues being cleared for training, so no one should need anything crazy. If they don't have something, I'm sure they will get it. As far as hygiene items go. I'm sure it will be bring what you can, get it from the FLETC Express, or order it. Not sure why people keep asking about the legality. NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO GO OR STAY.

Thin blue, then everyone should live on FLETC and not leave including the instructors. There will be enough housing with the smaller student capacity. Let's be one big happy family together and ensure we are all coronavirus free.

Oh and I guess you never heard of medical waivers.
