I have been back-and-forth between here and FedSoup looking for recent info on the Intel Research Specialist position. I applied through USAJobs for the recent announcement that closed almost a month ago (F-NC-20-10904479-DE-SG).

I received a near immediate auto-reply e-mail requesting me to do the biodata assessment as well as one other (written & timed).

I am curious to know if anyone is aware of the typical wait time before you know how you fared - most especially with regard to the written assessment. Also, is there a thread somewhere for the 2020 IRS applicants somewhere that I just completely missed?

This is a thread for Special Agents applicants so you probably won't find much help here. There may be a thread in this same subforum for Intel specialist but you'd have to search or look.

There is definitely a thread for IRS applicants for 2019. There may be one for 2020 or just jump into the 2019 one as it may have bled over.

Perfect! I must've missed the IRS thread and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I'll see what I can find.
      Thank you!

  • Depending on your body type, the higher scores in these events are obtainable for average people as long as you're in shape and have proper form. In regards to the sprint, I would recommend watching some youtube videos coaching on starting from two point/split stance, foot contact, and straightaway running vs curve running.

I had 12 points from the first two events and it is a GREAT feeling knowing you already have the minimum score met going into the final two events.

Oh and once you catch your breath after the 300 do a couple rounds of two or three pushups. It sounds counter intuitive, but it helps transfer the blood flow from your legs to your upper body and primes you for the actual event.

Do they put a fist under your chest for push-ups?

No, just told me if they didn't go down far enough. He didn't count my last few.

Same thing happened to me with push ups. Your mileage will vary depending on who the proctor is.

  • For those who completed the hiring process, have you received any updates recently? Also, anyone know if the academy class in Jan is still available.

I have and its been moving quick. I'm sure there are Jan slots available. They usually fill it up the month before or even a couple weeks prior to the academy. After talking to multiple candidates on here, they start filling up classes 3 months out and stop two weeks out.

  • In what order do they do the PT test? Is it sit-ups, pushups, 300 sprint, 1 1/2 mile or in what order?

Sit ups, sprint, push ups, 1.5 mile. 10 minutes of rest in between each exercise.

      Thank you for that information

  • When they call for your PFT date, what happens if you can't make that date? I work away from home more frequently then I'm home.

You get a new date and work with the recruiter on the best time as long as it's reasonable.

  • Anyone that is done with the process and in the January class, how soon after conclusion of testing did you hear from the hiring panel about location preferences and academy date?

After you finish you get an email saying congrats and pick locations along with more forms to fill out. From there it's around two weeks to hear official location and academy date.

  • For those waiting on COL's, check your emails.

      • I will be quick to say that I don't have the full picture of the situation with everything happening in the background. With that being said, I've had issues with getting my background investigation started following my COL. Using this forum I was able to get a hold of one of the security specialists that handles the investigation process and they informed me that they were missing documents, specifically my fingerprints. Going back further, my fingerprints were taken back in November of 2019 after my face-to-face interview. The specialist said they would reach out to the recruiting division to get this information. This email conversation took place a week ago. Putting yourself in my position, it has been almost a year since my interview, and to hear that the recruiter never sent my fingerprints can lead to some level of frustration. My question is should I just continue to wait and hope the specialist did as he said he would or should I follow up with the recruiter on the issue?

Like you I had my fair share of frustration with my previous recruiter. Long story short, I am on my third year in the process, but ever since I changed recruiters things have improved drastically.

My advice, see if you can change recruiters. It is worth it, especially if there is a lack of communication between you and the recruiter. Best of luck.

When you say offer do you mean final or COL?

Yeah, this is bad advice and I doubt the things said here. You don't need to practice pushups "until you can do them on your fingertips" but you need to practice with perfect form and work up to doing 45-50 good reps in case they knock off few (minimum to pass is 30). The run is the run, you don't need to "run like a crackhead" but there are plenty of tips on youtube on how to run a fast and efficient 300M. Outside of that, your posts in different threads are inconsistent so I have some doubts about the claims you're making about the offers you're getting. But that's neither here nor there.

@NYC1175...I would have to agree with you sir. Something doesn't sound right with the above post. But other than that, I was told there will be an academy in January and one in March. Good luck to you all.

Word of advice, learn how to run like a crackhead at the pt exam or you won’t pass and practice your pushups to the point of being able to do them on your fingertips. Those pt exam proctors were really anal about form. Almost to the point of obnoxious nothing Better to do but bust ballzzz lol
Which field office did you apply out of?

        • Was just informed that my BI was received 25 SEP, and that it is now in the final adjudication process. Is there anything you can do during this process?

I went through the B.I. process to get my clearance in the military, although I'm sure it was different than the process for DEA. If there is anything that will result in an unfavorable adjudication, rest assured the DEA will let you know that you were not favorably adjudicated. If your background is clean and you were honest on your Security Interview and on your EQIP, you should have no worries. All you can really do is sit and wait until you get word that you've been favorably adjudicated. It is basically out of your control at this point.

Oh ok cool, yeah I made sure to disclose everything with the HR Security Specialist, the OPM investigator and on all my forms (SF 86 and EQIP). thanks for the answer!

Suitability and Security clearance adjudication are two different things. You can be cleared to hold a security clearance, but you can be non suitable for an agency. Vice versa you can be considered suitable for the agency, but not be adjudicated for the clearance. Denial of suitability doesn't equal denial of a security clearance.
