  • Federal Work...First few days...what to expect?

    Hi all,

Some of you may remember me asking a few questions a couple of months ago. Well as it turns out I have cleared my BI and start work on the 29th as a Sector Enforcement Specialist for CBP. Planning to move across country this weekend...yikes!

Anyhow, I realize there may be nobody on here who is familiar with CBP SES job...however, I was wondering if any of you all could give me a heads up on what to expect, in general, on the first few days of work for the Feds. Experiences, tips, ideas, etc?

    Thanks!

Jerry: I think I'm pretty much like you, only successful.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now, what to expect for your first few days/week.. PAPER, PAPER, PAPERWORK... FGLI, FEHB, TSP, RED data, swearing in, pay & benefits etc. all the good things about working for the govt, all the sh*t you can't do as a govt. employee, (not to mention its a election year), you'll spend a considerable amount of time with your component's HR officer, you'll get some ethics training, take necessary photo's, meet with your chain of command, take your initial physical (if y ou havent already) and other admin stuff... If you have to attend fltec, they should let you know within your first week what class you'll be attending. After that they'll probably get your paired up with a senior officer or training officer and go from there... by chance what series is your position?

Yep, have fun with the pile of paperwork. Try and look nice, too - you'll most likely be taking a picture for your ID badge.

We'll be able to go more in depth after you've had a two month wait for your computer sign-ins and passwords to finally get approved.
