  • Hey

    Hey SD5326,

I wanted to ask you since you are a vet in this area. What kind of stuff should I see while stationed in Texas? I am going to Galveston, TX. Just wondering what kind of work we will be doing over there. If you could help me out it would be appreciated.

    Thanks for any help,

    Renato O.

    • FLETC is not that bad. Its just going through the classes, and sitting through the info. No need to bring anything other than work out clothes and clothes to wear out when you have off. The material is NOT designed to fail you either, so relax. Just review at night.

Typically you will have M-F off at around 1630. Weekends are free too. You get your own room on campus, or possibly a hotel off campus. The quality of rooms are nice, much like a hotel suite with a mini kitchen.

Anything else to know, your branch will fill you in on when you check in. Very laid back.

        • btw...you will need an inexpensive pair of black boots to wear for about a week, until your issued tan ones come in. I recommend Hi-Tec Magnums.

Hey I just got a MIA position in Galveston too. EOD date Nov 9, 2009. They gave me a FLETC date of Dec 31. I am coming out from SD. I just got back from a deployment with the USCG to the Middle East. Wanted to start sooner but I have some items I need to wrap up here in SD.

Congratulations on the job look forward to working with ya. If you find out any good info on Galveston let me know. I have never been to Texas but heard Galveston is pretty nice.

              Dude,

You haven't been there long enough to make a call like that. Let me know what you think in another 5 weeks after you've taken a test or two.

              • Snake, keep you personal opinions of my own statements to yourself, or PM me. This is a public forum. My statement is shared with my whole class.

The AMB program is in the works to cut a lot of what is there now. Rumor is its going to go to 6 weeks. So, with all the qualified candidates, who have many years of former knowledge in this field....this program is indeed "NOT that bad". I never said it was easy.

                So...as you were.

                • You're right it's a public forum. Reading your post may lead others to believe that it is easy and that there is no reason to put forth any effort. Maybe you should think about re-wording it. Just a suggestion, no need for the attitude. It's uneccessary. Like I said, wait a few weeks before posting something like that. You've been there for all of a week or so......sir.

                  • Alright!
In my opinion, I still haven't been to training yet...BUT I have been through many other trainings and for longer times...Like I know majority of you guys have gone through, specially the military vets. NOBODY says its going to be easy, and the words of NavyGucci are not meant to confuse people or lead them to think they shouldn't put any effort into it...What he is trying to say is that training at FLETC will not be as stressful and difficult as for example "bootcamp". Now his words and other postings have HELPED me lots in understanding more this process and it is in our advantage to have people like him motivating us on the other side who are waiting to try it out! I say NAVYGUCCI keep doing what you do man! This is a public forum and we are here to HELP EACH OTHER, no need for any kind of "attitude" or disrespect. After all we are all working towards protecting and serving this country of ours!

                        • With all the Fed agencies I've worked for, I've spent bout 11 months at good 'ol FLETC. This job will put me well over a year at that place. If you've been to college... really.. that's all it is. I was also a Combat Medic in the Army... it's really not paramilitary there. Like NavyGucci said... review at night, work out, and all will be good..

                          • Hey guys, I have a question that maybe someone on here can help me shed some light on. I applied to the November announcement and received a conditional offer in January for Port Huron, MI. The next several months were spent doing the SF86, drug test, physical, and eventually the BI interview with a local PI. I also heard of other PI's across the country interviewing the people I had listed on my SF86. The last interview I had heard about was conducted in May and there was no activity after then until yesterday, when I got an email from IA stating that my BI was being "reinitiated." In the email there were instructions to enter e-QIP again and revisit the SF86 paying particular attention to the education, employment, and relatives sections. I did make some minor changes from what I entered first time around, printed everything off again, and faxed/mailed what was required. Has this happened to anyone else, and any ideas why it might have occured? I asked a few questions of the IA rep who emailed me, but I am not sure that I will get anything in return that will shed light on my situation. Any guesses on how much longer I might be waiting now?

In any case, thanks for everyone who posted updates on here. Good luck to all those still waiting or currently in training, and hopefully I'll be joining you guys soon!

                            Thanks,
                            Andrew

                            • Sup man.

Hey Andrew, If you are talking about your investigative questionnaire than I had the same problem too. Few weeks from now I got an email from IA stating that it had been rejected for some reasons. It can be past employment, school, work, etc... DO NOT worry too much about this, I know it must feel like you are working backwards but keep the hope brother! Soon after I completed the form sf86 all over and had to fax and fedex the papers, the lady from IA told me that she would let me know if there were anymore problems with my process. The thing is that I had already been sent to training and scheduling because the Background investigation was already finished successfully. The only thing been done now was for my secret clearance and that it would only take a few days to fix the problem. There must be a name of the person who emailed you. Try giving them a call and ask them to help you. My contact was very helpful and she made sure everything was good to go. This is your process and if you do not worry about it and call these people, than they will not help you. You have to show attention to this case and do not worry man everything will work out for you. IF NOT you would've heard something long time ago about not being selected. YOU ARE IN brother! Just gotta keep waiting a little bit more...

                              Do not give up!

Got any more questions please PM me!

                              Renato.

                                Hey guys,

I'm in!! I got a call from a CBP lady in DC today extending me a firm offer for Port Huron, MI, the same place I recieved my conditional offer for in January. I am still only at the beginning of this whole process, but am excited!! If anyone has any questions about how the whole process went for me just shoot me a PM or post on here. Great day!!
