  • You're so right.

    But as I assume most that have professional careers now, we are putting them on a priority hold. Myself and others have declined recent promotions and moves due to this position. So its getting frustrating, and I know others share in that.

    Yes, it's expected to be a wait. My BI was completed 3 months ago. So I think our collective frustrations are valid.

    The more I hear about this position, and what MIA's actually get involved with, it just gets me that much more anxious to get to work.

    That's all.

    • I hear ya. I probably gave up more than most to take this job but that is another thread within itself. Just so you know, from the time my background was complete to the time I got the call was close to eight months.

      • And I bet it was so worth it! I am also waiting for a call. But I know that patience is a virtue and my time will come. Don't worry too much about it, just take it easy and enjoy your time off. One friend told me that enjoy my time right now because once this job starts it never stops!

        • Waiting;

          Listening to everyone talk about the wait sucks. I just put in initial paperwork for the May 2009 Vacancies. How long after the announcement closes does it take to hear something back? Gucci, I'm envious of the opportunity you have @ Marathon. I'm currently a Marine Patrol Officer out of Charleston working with a US Customs Task Force full time. Working out of the Marathon office would be my dream job. Good Luck.

          • Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend. I finally heard back this week from IA that my BI was completed and referred to training and scheduling. I should be hearing something back in the next couple of days concerning where I'll be going, EOD and training dates. Started in Novemeber and just now it's about completed. So it took around 7 months. Good luck to the rest of you guys waiting to hear something back. I'd imagine that if you applied to the same announcement you'll be hearing soon.

            • Not in the process for hiring but have a question anyway. Are MIAs ever hired at the GS 5/7 level? If so, do those lower graded positions require a captain's license as well or is that something you can obtain during training? Thanks for the info and good luck.

              • No Captain license for 5/7.. just an Unmanned Boaters License. They do bring on 5/7's. I work with GS 7's down here on the Gulf Coast.

                To clarify, they will bring you on as a GS 5/7 with no license, then license you with an Unmanned Boaters License for your GS9. Captains License is for GS 12. Not sure about GS 11??

                  GS7 with no captain's License.

                  GS9 with the OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels) "captain's License" AKA "6 Pack" license- you can only have up to 6 paying passengers on an OUPV license. A vessel that holds 7 or more paying passengers requires the masters certificate and a USCG commercial vessel inspection.

                  GS11 then GS12 with the Master's License.

                        Just curious, isn't there a written test and test ride for this position? If so, where does this all fall in to the time line?

                        Thanks,

                            Thanks.
