If its anything like CBPs attempt at hiring exclusively females, HSI is going to be disappointed with how many women they end up bringing on. Capable women who are well qualified for the job would have just applied when a regular announcement was open. This statement isn't meant to start a political debate or flame war, but when agencies have done this they don't get the results they want.

First thing I noticed: No answer key. Seems on par with the FBI exam a bit (logical reasoning section) with some of the USSS/USMS test (grammar section).

Best part - no more math.

    • Latest update on the Direct Hire Program AND release date for 2021 DHS only announcement now posted on my HSI page (Hiring Program Announcements Section). Only first 500 applicants will be accepted for DHS only announcement. Good luck.

When you say DHS only means only current federal employees can apply correct?

DHS employees only is the way I understand it. So if you're a current fed employee in another agency, you'll have to wait for the general public announcement.

Got it, I’ll have to apply when the announcement for general public comes around.

Long shot and most likely not but what if you have an EOD of September 2021 with DHS?

    • The HSI candidates *most* like to make the initial cut are those with degrees and relevant experience (both law enforcement and non-enforcement). Additionally, I highly encourage hopefuls to have a detailed 3-4 page resume; otherwise you are simply wasting your time.

If you have additional questions about the resume; please read this detailed post to help answer your questions: https://www.specialagents.org/resume-failures.

Good luck to all of you.

p.s. I will continue to post updates on my HSI page about the upcoming Direct Hire announcement as it becomes available.

      • specialagentblog or anyone else know if you have to wait a certain period of time before you can reapply if you fail any portion of the hiring process? Including any assessment and/or interview portion?

Do any of the portions taken from one announcement transfer over to a different announcement?

        thanks in advance!

Each announcement is different and your information does NOT transfer over. It terms of waiting period, that can vary and it is typically dependent on the type of announcement.

Many would be served too by quoting substance. Everyone types up a resume quoting the application. Talk about your worth and what you bring to the table. Description of details, actions, and results.

Everyone applied, why should you be hired.

        • I work with a bunch of HSI guys, they seem to think the DHS announcement is for the ERO guys as DHS plans on cutting down in ERO officers.

No, the DHS Only announcement was not created specifically for ERO. Unfortunately this is the type of "rumor intelligence" that gets passed around and eventually becomes unverified gospel. Like all other 1811 agencies, HSI is constantly looking for unique and varied ways to create a multi-talented workforce. Your chances of obtaining a Special Agent trainee slot depends on your education, experience and suitability for the position; and no single career path guarantees success.

        • I missed the original window for this posting, anyone have any idea when HSI will be accepting applicants again?

Also, what’s their timeline like compared to USSS/FBI and others?

Word on the street is that there is an open to the public announcement coming in September...ish. Per SABlog, the direct hire authority request was submitted back in May & is pending approval. If the DH is not approved, it'll be the standard racking & stacking of applicants.

        • Has anyone taken the Phase II assessment recently? I have been told by a third party that the math portion is still on it but the study guide doesn’t have it.
