  • Those of you who have taken the proctored exam. At the end did your screen go all white? I submitted the last section and just got a white screen. The proctor came in and closed the screen and said "that's it I guess" they could not confirm my answers went off to the magic place for grading or anything....?

When I took mine (last summer) the proctoring center people had some sort of confirmation on their computers when I checked out. I would maybe try calling them, I know they don't get any scores or other information but I am pretty sure they can tell if there was an error.

I got the white screen, the proctor says it happens sometimes and he checked to make sure it was submitted. He said it was.

  • So some agencies have their new hires EOD at their permanent office and work there for weeks or months before their academies while some agencies have them EOD at the academies. Can anyone answer how HSI does it?

Both. If you live close to your office, you'll likely EOD at the office you'll be assigned to. However, if you live far from the office you'll be assigned to, you may EOD either at a local office, or at FLETC.

      Ok thanks.

  • Do you guys dress professionally, business casual, or ordinary plain clothes for the written exam? Does it matter?

You can wear gym shorts if you want so, there will be no ice employees there

  • For 18 DH it was administered by a private testing center. It does not matter what you wear no one from HSI will be there

    • Has anyone who took the proctored test within the last few weeks gotten your results? If so, what did the alert/email look like? Just curious...

Also, if you got your results, let us know your testing date. Thanks!

For the 18 DH your NOR stated if you were eligible, and then if you were referred. It didn’t say whether you “passed” but it was assumed if you weren’t referred you failed.

The notification said something like “You were rated eligible for GL-7 because a,b,c. You were not rated eligible for GL-9 because x,y,z.” Then it went on to say “you were referred to the Miami hiring official for GL-7, you were not referred to the Miami hiring official for GL-9,” etc.

It caused confusion then and I’m guessing it’ll cause confusion this time. People who weren’t referred at all didn’t know if that meant they failed the test or were rated ineligible for another, unstated reason and I don’t believe anyone found out. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Everyone got their NORs together about 2 months after the last testing date. Last testing date was 7/24/2018 and we got our NORs 9/12/2018.

Thanks for the clarification FLE. So if that is the case then the 2 month timeline post testing would start June 11 according to my email.

Sorry about that, it was 2 months, not 2 weeks. I edited my comment above to show the appropriate timeline.

Although the initial USA Hire email stated the testing ends on June 11, that’s not the case since several testing sites in my area offer the test up to June 15 and they’re supposed to offer the test within the valid timeframe only. And I’m sure it’s not just for my area throughout the whole country. With that being said, I can only conclude the USA Hire email showed the wrong testing dates. Also, since there is no longer the essay portion in the test, HSI may notify the results earlier than the last time.

    • I’m from Kentucky and I picked DC as my POD. If I pass written and physical, will I continue through the local FO or will have to travel to DC?

They will come. Like a thief in the night, With the Federal system, just forget you tested. Take Yoga, CrossFit, and move yourself forward. If they happen to want you, great! If not, well, have a few other buns in the oven.

        • Guys/gals, in order to have made the cutoff, you should have applied within the first few hours or so. If you waited until later in the day or more, then you are probably SOL. How do you know if you made the cutoff? Once you are invited to the online assessment of course! If you haven't received anything by now, then you probably didn't make it.

If you haven't received any invites to the SA Battery exam by now, then you didn't (somehow) pass the online assessment. However, anything is possible at this point. There was another email stating that the deadline was pushed a few days, so check your spam box asap.

From the majority of what everyone has written here, once the exam is complete you will get your results in a few weeks. The HSI process will take some time so move on with your life until the next step and make it a habit to check your spam box along with your inbox.

For those who didn't make it: Apply to other agencies and don't be negative about yourself or the process. A lot of people who are getting picked up are the ones are understand how to tailor their resume on USAJOBS to meet KSA criteria; if you can do this--it almost doesn't matter what degree you have or how long you've been in LE, it all boils down to KSA. I've seen TSA guys make it to 1801 and 1811 jobs and many people consider TSA to be on the bottom of the totem pole of LEA; just stating the facts--I don't have anything against them.

If you are in the process now, then assume that you will be taking the physical test and interviewing so work out NOW and work on your interviewing skills now for the office interview. Anyways, best of luck to all.

"Guys/gals, in order to have made the cutoff, you should have applied within the first few hours or so"

If that's what they wanted then why not just set the announcement for the "first 1000" or so applicants? Why keep it open for the whole application period? That's like hijacking a plane and demanding the pilot to fly it to Mexico...

Why not just take the plane that's supposed to go to Mexico? I mean there are easier ways to do things.

Second...I guess "screw experience and education." Let's see who's up at 1 o'clock in the morning. (Ester Rolle voice) Damn...Damn...Damn!

...because they just want to see who would cry about it and come up with some weird Mexico analogy to make sense of it. Duh.

lol well without emojis then I'll have to take your word for it.

        • Can anyone here confirm how the proctored exam is graded, i.e. is it cumulative? and if so, how do they combine it? do they grade each section then average it out, or do they grade the entirety (which is weird since there were only 90 questions)

You'll get a score and then there's a cut-off number used to move to the next step. Trying to deduce all this erroneous info is pointless.

Well deducing info to determine which are erroneous and which are not is the first step. Second, "pointless" is relative, I don't think its pointless to know how the exam is graded. Third wtf kind of answer is that, "you'll get a score and then theres a cut-off" yea no sh*t, how are you given the score was the question. That answer is equivalent to saying "you apply for the job announcement, if you make the cut-off then they may pick you."

"you apply for the job announcement, if you make the cut-off then they may pick you." That’s exactly what it is! There is no rhyme or reason to any of it, and those who claim to know are full of it. There is just mass speculation and guessing based on prior trends and outcomes. I work within HSI already as a GS13 1801, and have for years, I have been a part of this process in the 2016 announcement and 2 direct hires. Both direct hires were approved by my SAC. The first one I was found not qualified for and this one I am? Both times my SAC was pushing me through. I have been pending medical since June of last year for 16' hire. The idea that someone on here knows how the test is graded is nonsense, and if they did, they wouldn’t share that info…along with interview questions and the like. Dallas HR runs the hire process and most of them have no clue what’s 2 feet beyond their own desks. This entire process is hurry up and wait…don’t think about it and don’t lose sleep over it. Live your life and don’t question the results… because they make no sense. Point in case: I applied in the last hour of this direct hire and have already taken my exam.

Lol was going to copy and paste the same thing and say the same thing.

        • I heard a rumor that certificate selections are due by June 24, which would mean tests are graded by then. I know that is only 11 days now which seems ambitious, but my source is solid. Presumably email notifications would go out through USA Staffing not long after that. Given the process so far I think it would be good to temper expectations, but there is some reason to be cautiously optimistic.
