I’m not going to be alarmed if you are already employed by them. Hopefully we’ll hear this week, if they’re sending offers today.

    • Received 2nd call from same office (NYC). Still no solid offer, but a follow up is always good. Asked if I was thinking of leaving after the 3 year timeframe Then said I should hear something soon

You’ll get the call soon. The office is just making sure they can retain deputies for the long term.

    • Received offer today for November class and Washington DC as location. Accepted the offer

Yes, majority of us are. In fact, the current hiring initiative is favoring military veterans first before hiring other eligible candidates

    • Is that always the case with veterans or is that just the cycle Usms is in right now? RIVRONVET

It used to be a cycle Steelfball22 but over the last few hiring sessions the agency has favored hiring veterans first over other candidates. It’s been a government wide initiative.

      Two questions:
      1. What is the "old style" of testing?

      2. Does anyone know (on the sit and reach) where your toes fall on the inch line? I've seen some boxes at 9 and some at 15....There is a substantial difference.

“Old style” is what’s rolled out now(1 min push up,1 min sit up, 1.5 mile run)
They had a FIT test before that include the agility run, grip test, bench press, and 1.5 run (liked that one better personally)

    • Is it true that USMS is looking to hire 800-1000 more Deputies?

Yep, that’s true. Some where in the vicinity of 1,000 in the next few years.

    • Good morning, does anybody have intel on the October and November classes already being full.

I just got a tentative offer for November class this morning so I don't think so.

BPVAFED Yes six years active. I was originally told I didn't qualify for Vet preference, however, asked them last week and they responded that "Yes, we have your status as 5 point veteran preference."

    • Congratulations that's good to hear.

Had 2 options. Corpus Christi or Manhattan

Corpus is 2 hours away, but we chose NYC

@ TXSP - I know nothing about the office in Corpus, so it’s not that I heard anything bad.

From what I’ve been told, the Manhattan office is one of the most active in the country.

Also, I believe Corpus was a “as needed” location, as opposed to “selected” by Manhattan, which means a lot to me

I may be waaay off, but that’s why I picked NY

    • I wonder if October is filled.

2-3 years, depending on what you’re hired at. You do get locality. What you are prior doesn’t matter from my understanding. USMS only hires at GL-5 or GL-7, based on your qualifications.

Cgrizz if you’re a LEO GS12 you will come on stepped out as a 7/10 then 9/10 etc etc. No LEAP until GS 11. Two years of straight pay

You should still get locality pay, and yes you should come in as a 7-10 then 9-10, etc. Leap kicks in at GS11 when you get converted from the 0082 series to 1811 series.

Do you get stepped up for non fed leo experience?
I was qualified at gl7 for 10 years state leo

      • FNG41YR. - uh o, why is that? Lol

cost of living is obviously a huge downside, but working out of that office is going to be significantly better than Corpus Christi

There’s actually nothing wrong with corpus. It’s a good office, great personnel. The minor downside is the most of the Southern District is short on staff. I know McAllen alone is trying to fill 13 vacancies.

      • Is it possible to get stepped up for getting masters after applying or does only experience get you stepped up?

Even getting a VA rating of 10% doesn’t get you vet preference, so I’d say no. HR said after the apps in they don’t like to change things

Entry level only allows for 5 or 7. Nothing else. Education and/or LE experience will only get you a 7
