The BOP will always be anti gun due to the people they have running it. Its been that way long before 2006.

The OP is talking about official on duty carry. If you are in a post that requires a firearm then you have to carry it. Otherwise you can't carry a firearm. The BOP isn't anti-gun per se, but they are embarrassed by Tallahassee incident back in 2006 and definitely don't want a repeat. Oh and nobody is going register their gun(s) with BOP unless they are on reservation housing.

Yes the BOP is anti gun it only took over 10 years for them to allow us to store a firearm in our pov on grounds and took a couple years for them to recognize we are covered under leosa after it was signed into law. They still refuse to allow us to use their ranges for personal use and refuse to qualify the staff that have retired under leosa. We must seek out our own qualification after retirement.

I think there are a few 1811s out there that do not carry, and as such, are not 6C covered. If youre not going to be 6C, theres really no point in being FLEO in my opinion. With that opinion, I would look into things like intelligence or intel research specialists, CBP Import Specialists, etc. Doing many of the investigative functions of a LE job, without gun authority. And since not 6c, same retirement as the job you seek OP.

The BOP is anti-gun, yet they're increasing your ability to carry through your BOP credentials. Great way to contradict yourself...

Federal Bureau of Prisons , you only carry a firearm on certain posts. You can carry a firearm off duty under LEOSA if you choose to , the BOP would actually prefer you not to carry a firearm off duty as they are very anti gun. Starting Oct 1 BOP staff can carry to and from work and store a firearm in your vehicle but you have to have your firearm in a lock box and secured to your vehicle and has to be out of sight and can only be one firearm and 60 rds of ammo. You also are required to fill out a form with the make, model, caliber, and serial number of the firearm you plan on carrying on BOP grounds that's is kept on file by the agency.

Weird request to not want to carry a firearm in performance of law enforcement duties. Maybe there are optional agencies, but I want my officers armed, especially if they are expected to back me up if things go south.

Why do you ask? Are you a convicted felon who wants to be a cop but cannot carry a firearm as a felon, or did you Barney Fife yourself in the foot with your roscoe in the past?

These are the questions I want to see the answers to.

Federal Probation isn't necessarily optional carry, it Is decided upon by that district if they will be allowed to. All but a few do and sometimes that is for the best

Not to my knowledge. Seems like a strange condition to desire in a law enforcement agency...
