Cali that guy left because he was probably bored out of his mind being a DO. This job isn’t what some of these old timers make it to be.

I’ve worked with the USMS task force on a couple ops here as local pd most USMS isn’t the sexy high speed stuff you see on YouTube or movies. If you want sexy don’t go DO since you won’t start out in fugitive ops however, correct me if I’m wrong Exbpa340 but fugitive ops for ERO is pretty much the same as fugitive ops for the USMS. When we did our op we had a target list that entailed surveillance and ultimately Apprehension of that subject but most marshals work at the court houses and jails and the various other stuff the marshal service is responsible for. I have 6 years as local pd experience I really look forward to hopefully jumping to DO it’s a different job it’s not for everyone.

I have not worked on the USMS TF but my office/Suboffice has a couple of DOs assigned to the TF. The USM TF will definitely be targeting on average a higher value target than your the local FUG OPS teams. It almost seems easier to land on the TF being from an outside agency than within the USMS. A lot of it comes down to personal preference and what kind of officer/agent one wants to be. My post was mainly about the financial impact of dropping in grade/pay for a position.

Immigration law is a different animal and is not for everyone. I have had a pretty long career in this field and am more than happy with the path I chose.

Example - Back in 2018 I was working the detained docket and a Costa Rican EWI was released from prison to us. He had just finished a 14 year prison sentence for having raped two 9 year old little girls multiple times over a two year period. One of the CAP guys knocked out the Admin and then the case was turned over to me. From there had to set everything up for his removal... getting the TD, Threat Assessment, Escort Officers assigned (I was one of the two), setting up the removal, country clearances, Interpol Green notice, booking the travel and numerous other things along the way. I then escorted this POS to CR and upon delivering him to the CR authorities gifted them a copy of the conviction documents with victim names redacted. I wanted to ensure that they knew exactly what kind of POS this guy was. In my eyes we do a very good service for our country. We don’t always win and at times it can be frustrating seeing what these IJs grant or how political things have become. We can only do the job to the best of our abilities.

Exbpa340 I always appreciate the input. I was more posting in regards to the original post about what agency to choose I do remember when I worked with the guys a couple years ago they were having retention issues because it was very hard for agents to get on the fugitive apprehension teams in fact majority of the guys here are local pd over sighted by a couple marshals

It is probably required for new hires. However, I believe that current ICE employees are exempt from that requirement.

As of lately its on basis, Meaning that some applicant's do get a poly and some don't. Not sure how they pick and choose, but I'm guessing if an applicant for CBP failed a poly they would obviously have to take another one for ICE.

FNG41YR we have had more than a few disagreements on this forum. You are a nugget that seems quite unhappy with the DO position. You can leave anytime as there are literally thousands waiting to fill that vacancy and will no doubt do a better job. I will break down the math for you.
      Year 1
      GS 12/5 with AUO/FLSA = 125,000
      GL 7/10 (0082) = 67,500
      Loss After 1 year = 57,500

      Year 2
      GS 12/5 with AUO/FLSA = 125,000
      GL 9/10 (0082) = 76,800
      Loss after 2 years = 105,700

      Year 3
      GS 12/6 with AUO /FLSA = 129,000
      GS 11/9 (1811) with LEAP = 110,400
      Loss after 3 years = 124,300

      Year 4
      GS 12/6 with AUO/FLSA = 129,000
      GS 12/5 (1811) with LEAP = 118,400
      Loss after 4 years = 134,900

      Year 5
      GS 12/7 with AUO/FLSA = 132,500
      GS 13/2 (1811) with LEAP = 128,400
      Loss after 5 years = 139,000

      Year 6
      GS 12/7 with AUO/FLSA = 132,500
      GS 13/3 (1811) with LEAP = 132,600
      Loss after 6 years = 138,900

So how many years will it take to break even after losing almost 140k in earnings to take this position? FYI An SA 1811 at GS 13/5 makes about 11 K more than a GS 12/5 with AUO/FLSA. These number are assuming pay matching that the USMS doesn’t have to do...so if you go on as a GL 7/1 then the numbers would be much worse.

The USMS is pretty much the worst 1811 position to drop down and take because they don’t get LEAP until they are a GS 11. Some other positions actually get LEAP at the academy so the loss would be less and the break even point would be sooner. This is just a look at the financials. In the end if you have enough years left to work it can be a better financial move and would result in a higher high 3.

We all get that you hate the job/position. Not sure if you are just that kind of person (seems to be since you move around frequently) or that you are just in a crappy location. Either way Don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

No crying here. I am pretty content with life/things. Can you say the same?.

I hope for everyone’s sake that you move onto the USMS and then you can break even a couple of years into retirement. Sounds like a sound financial plan.

So how many years on the job? 3?

Try re-reading my posts. I am spot on when it comes to the math and as I said it is not financially a good move for MANY DOs. Those that have only been in the job a few years (like you) will lose less but still lose a significant amount of income. There is more to life than just the money so some may look for a change in working conditions or location and that was not addressed in my posts.

You’ve been pretty much a constant negative force when you post here... talking crap about PAs and your fellow DOs. You might have forgotten but you PM’d me about 2 years ago and claimed to have pretty much “done” all the ERO Enforcement stuff including working on TFs. At the time you made that claim how much time on the job did you have then? 18 months? You made other claims about jobs in multiple agencies, education, multiple language skills and years on active duty. Maybe you’ve done it all but the odds are is that your a BSer.

I find it highly unlikely that you’ve “done” it all including working on task forces (as in plural) with only a couple of years on the job.

What does DO mean and which location is SA? Detainee Operations? Deportation Officer? San Antonio? Santa Anna? San Angelo?

For all we know, you could be asking where a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is located in South Australia (S.A.). Asking others to assume is NEVER a good idea because you have no control over how the message is received. You do have control on how the message is conveyed.

It really is easier for people to answer your question if you don’t use generalized acronyms and use plain English. It’s going to be difficult to get answers to questions if you can’t articulate what it is you are exactly asking about. Have you attempted to utilize Google or other search engines to answer your question?

The reason why I bring this up is because all police officers or law-enforcement officers have the basic skill set of being able to research public information to get answers to questions. This is constructive criticism to help you.
