  • like most thing in life, if you gaff off what you perceive is “easy” then yea, you deserve to fail. Just like the running portion, if you gaff off and not jog here and there before the academy, then yea you should fail out too

Sorry bud, can’t really give any advice (studying wise) still need to go to the academy myself lol. As far as the running go, just incorporate cardio in your workout, I’m sure you’ll be good on the 1.5 miles if you do

Only thing you can prepare for is pt. Don't even dab into the INA. You'll just confuse yourself. PT and more Pt. That's the best prep you can do

I would recommend you not study Imm Law unless you are working with a DO who's really good at it. There's so much in the INA and you dont want to overload yourself with info that you wont need as a DO to pass BIETP.

Just show up in shape, open minded, and willing to learn.

When I got “the call” last month, I was given the timeline of July 31st as the latest date to expect the EOD email. I don’t plan on asking for a follow up till August 1st

    • Anyone in ERO have insight on the kind of upward and lateral opportunities available? I know this is not HSI, but are there task force duties available that an officer can be apart of? Also, I've read rumors, a while back ago, about ERO becoming 1811. Just a rumor? Thanks for any insights

This all depends on the Field/Sub office you’re assigned to. If you go to a main office be prepared to never get onto any lateral duties after maybe about 10+ years in. Seniority will keep you in detained/non detained duties. If you get offered a sub office take it. That is where you’ll get to experience more of the “enforcement” side of this job. Have any questions pm me.

        FNG41YR Thanks for the comments!

Sapper92 Thanks for the comments! I was referred for hiring for HSI not too long ago, but I'm sticking with ERO, based on my experience working closely with both them. With that said, it'd be nice to know, from others' insights, how one could grow in the position.

I mean ERO has a lot of upward mobility, e.g., the famous SRT, become a DDO, or you can even do assistant attaché work (living abroad in an embassy)

    • Got my EOD Aug 16! Newark office , can anyone tell me about this Office ? Types of units ? Shift work ? OT morale , sub offices , just any information on this office will be appreciated.

MarcyMarsoc it varies by field office. Some places make you do 3 yrs at your initial duty station.

There is no official ERO "swap policy" that Im aware of. Whether you can swap or not and the conditions for it is totally up to the two FODs of the field offices in question. Some dont care at all about pay grade, experience, etc as long as they get a decent DO in return. Some only want 12s and will only swap 12 for 12s. Some require a certain type or amount of experience. Some will flat out tell you they dont do swaps (probably because they've been burned in the past).

So you need to discuss it with your field office. I personally dont think anyone should be swapping until at least after they finish the academy, but its up to your field office.

        Upward opportunities:
DOs top out at GS12. If you want to go beyond that, there are management positions GS-13 SDDO, GS-14 AFOD, etc. There are non-managerial HQ DDO GS13/14 positions both in HQ DC and many other places like Air Ops, LESC, Academy, Attache, etc.

        Lateral:
Not aware of any opportunities here. Mainly due to the unique nature of DO work and BIETP academy being unique and not really "honored" anywhere for a similar LE position.

        Task forces:
Depends on you location and field office. But there are DOs all over the country on JTTF (FBI), HSI, DEA, USMS, and local/county/state police task forces. Each field office has there own way of selection and length of service on those task forces. Most only have 1 or maybe 2 DOs assigned to it and they may be there for many years.

        1811:
It was a rumor started mainly tied to EROs eventual move from AUO/FLSA to another pay form like LEAP. 1811s automatically rate LEAP by statue, so if DOs were "made" 1811s, then no separate legislation to push through congress would be necessary to get LEAP (or any other form of premium pay). I dont think this "rumor" had any real legs behind it at HQ, but people like throwing ideas around. The DO job series is changing eventually from 1801, but its most likely going to be an 1891 specialist position (like OFO/BP) and not 1811. Pay reform is coming eventually as well, but AUO/FSLA is it for the near future.

        • Is any who received an EOD a federal employee not in ICE? How long did it take for them to contact your HR POC for your federal employee info to transfer over? I just contacted mine and she hasn't received anything from them yet.
