they are "Active" as they do a little bit of everything ( fraud, counterfeiting, drugs, terrorist threats, blk mail)-maybe not as aggressive as FBI or DEA or BATF, but at least in the area of Treasury and BICE field units-funny but they tend to get involved in the lower end stuff that it seems should be the responsibility of the U.S. postal Police( which is under the USPIS)-the Postal police are basically "armed security" here in So.Calif

Do you mean Postal Inspectors? If you do, they have jurisdiction over any crime in which the US mail is used - which means they have a lot of work to pick from.

Like most federal agents, arrests are not as common for Postal Inspectors as they are for street cops, but a fed could generate enough business to keep himself interested.

Primary difference - Postal OIG Special Agents investigate crimes internal to the Postal Service (employees, contractors, etc), while Postal Inspectors investigate crimes external to the Postal Service (civilians using the mails to commit crimes, etc).

Inspectors have a wide range of jurisdiction, as they can really work any nature of crime as long as there is a postal nexus. Crimes can range from Homeland Security issues to narcotics to kiddie porn. Often, the crimes could be worked by locals or other feds, but the Postal Inspectors can focus on the specific crimes involving the US Mails and mail system, be it Nigerians committing credit card theft and mailing blanks through the mail - or investigations involving controlled deliveries of narcotics or other contraband being sent via the postal service. Most Inspectors enjoy their jobs, the variety of work and certainly the pay.
